An Incredible and Immersive Experience - Must See

The cost of admission includes a guide for the whole hour and a half. We were lucky to have Autumn - she was so fun and enthusiastic and added so much to our incredible experience. You are encouraged to take photos and touch nearly everything you see so great for kids. This site is geared for movie special effects (Wellington is for Hobbit enthusiasts) and I can't rave how much fun we had. I wasn't that taken with the guts section where you walk through the internals of a huge beast, but it only takes a minute to go through and you can easily avoid that experience if it's not your thing.

The entire experience! The hands on experience really enhanced the journey. The small group allowed the guide to help answer questions easily and also gave everyone an opportunity to see, touch and experience the entire exhibit!

This was fun and interesting behind the scenes Special Effects tour that lasted 90 min. Our favorite area was the lab where there were several AR stations. Was a highlight of our short stay in Auckland!

Interesting behind the scenes look, but don’t expect much info on the how-to of LOTR/HOBBIT films

The behind the scenes experience was will thought out and tour guide Marcus was very knowledgeable. There was very limited information about The Hobbit and LOTR on the “how” many things things were done, and the selection of merch in the gift shop was limited to extraordinarily expensive items, or just sold out with no indication when restock was to be available available. (i.e. Thorin’s Parchment Map). There were also limits on the classic swords that are part of the stories of LOTR..”Glamdring” was available at a high cost, but Orcrist was not available at all. All of the swords were blunt-blade casts, not sharp at all. For the cost they should have been realistic. The jewelry was of limited supply, and some were not close to life size, such as Arwen’s Evenstar pendant. The cast figures of key characters were also extraordinarily expensive or looked like the were images from the Rankin-Bass cartoon characters of the early 1980’s film. Even the t-shirts were limited and expensive.

It was a very immersive experience. One set may not be the best suitable for children since it was a horror set but there is something there for everyone of all ages. I would totally recommend

Oliver our fantastic guide! And Jeff of course! Our girls had the time of their lives, I have always wanted to visit Weta Workshop in Wellington so having Weta Unleashed in Auckland is great...we'll worth going again and highly recommended 😀

Really great tour. My tour guide was very funny and made the whole experience very memorable. Love seeing all the animatronics that they have made and the whole process. A must see if you are ever in Auckland.

Hands on exploration of movie special effects. Our family enjoyed seeing the creation process (sketches), the makeup area, and the costume creation. Our tour guide Maddie was wonderful, engaging each group individually so they found fun things in each room.

Do the throne pictures at the end. Pose in all different ways. It is awesome!! It is a really hands on demonstration of all of the work done. I loved how our tour guide, Erin from Canada, personalized it. She pointed out special effects from different movies or gave antidotes from movies. It was an amazing experience!

Fantastic experience and is conveniently located in Auckland's Sky City precinct! Highly recommend doing this before visiting Hobbiton to build up the hype. Great tour guide. Enthusiastic, friendly and engaging, revving everyone to get involved.

It is hard to pin down my most memorable part of this experience as all of it was so amazing, you have am amazing pool of talent and people with awesome imagination and skills. The only thing that I didn’t enjoy was going through the lamb slaughter house in the pitch black knowing that I have claustrophobia, a fault totally on me as we were warned that this could happen. All in all a wonderful experience and would recommend this tour to anyone.

Definitely a must see in Auckland for the family.
