What To Expect

Depart from your centrally located Bayeux hotel and climb aboard a comfortable, air-conditioned minivan destined for Pointe du Hoc, the site of a brutal attack on a German battery on D-Day. On arrival, gaze at an eerie lunar landscape of scattered remnants of ancient fortifications and then return to your vehicle for the scenic drive to Omaha Beach.

Disembark at the famous World War II site and listen as your guide reveals the brutal history of the battlefield that saw the most D-Day casualties. Pay tribute to fallen soldiers at the Normandy American Cemetery and Memorial and marvel at interminable rows of headstones commemorating courageous soldiers.

Head next to Pegasus Bridge, the site of one of the most successful D-Day operations, and capture picturesque photographs of the Orne river and canal as you stroll towards the sea at Caen.

Continue onto the Merville Battery Museum to discover the tales surrounding the 6th British Airborne and then arrive at Sword Beach, a sandy stretch upon which the British 3rd Infantry Division landed on their way to Caen. Then, descend into the underground bunkers of the Hillman Bunkers to empathise with brave soldiers fighting in claustrophobic conditions.

Conclude your moving tour at Bayeux War Cemetery, the largest WWII cemetery of the Commonwealth soldiers in France, and feel emotionally stirred as you see graves containing more than 4,500 soldiers killed in WWII.

Relax during the journey back to Bayeux, where the tour concludes.

The cost of Being an American

The reality of D Day is brought to life while visiting the sites we have only read about in school Standing on the exact spot where our young patriots died brings to life the price our nation paid for our freedoms that we are once again in danger of loosing, but this time from within. The tour visited the most important sites and our guide was extremely knowledgeable and forthcoming Unfortunately the weather was absolutely miserable and the winds were almost unbearable Do not miss this opportunity to see for yourself the price for our way of life!

Really good trip - happy to recommend
Terry_B, May 2023
Myself and brother in law booked this all day trip. Philip was our guide amdreally knowledgable. He explained everything at a level that I, as someone with an interest in D-Day could understand, but also exceeded my brother-in-laws expectations who to be honest is a WW2 anorak. Very interesting and laid back trip. Thank you Phillip for an enjoyable day.

Marti_C, Jul 2022
Our guide, Luci, was amazing. She was extremely knowledgeable, could answer a wide range of questions, made sure everyone was comfortable (it was about 100F that day). She really brought to life the battles and the problems that plagued some of them. She was a total joy!!!

I never realized how long the beaches were. What an amazing undertaking to conquer those beaches despite the fortified references. Very interesting and informative tour.

craigsadams, Jul 2017
Six people in our extended family were happy to find that one Volkswagen van would accommodate just us, and the driver/tour guide, Sophia, was not only an excellent driver but also fluent in English and French. Her ability to convey place and time in historical context was excellent. What surprised us was the sheer length of the Normandy landing - some 90 kilometers I believe. That would factor in to just how much could be covered in nine hours. The tour started in the west at Pont du Hoc, breathtaking view and history, then to Omaha Beach at low tide: utterly empty at ten in the morning. Then to the American and British cemeteries, the former austere and starkly beautiful, the latter more personalized. Lunch back in Bayeaux, the capital of Free France, our guide was proud to inform. Then on to the British sector Sword, with stop at Pegasus Bridge and the legacy of the British commandos and use of gliders in the invasion. From there to the Merville battery, amazing museum with actual Nazi bunkers. Tour ended at Sword beach, by now jammed with Sunday beach goers like the Jersey Shore. We had gone to St Mere Igles the day before: not to be missed, great Airborne museum.

We loved the tour, all very informative and well led. Would have liked a little longer in some places but on the other hand perhaps that would have meant not seeing so much? So on balance, excellent, would recommend to anyone.

It was a good day. The tour guide seemed to have the facts accurate as we are history buffs. Would have enjoyed more time at Point du Hoc and American Cemetery. It was too bad the others were not able to see Omaha Beach at Low tide. It has such more of an impact. Luckily we stayed at Omaha and were able to walk the beaches at low tide. I would suggest arranging the day differently. Other low points: The bus has 12 large adults and it was uncomfortable as it felt over-crowded. Pegasus Bridge was reproduction and the original was 1 block away at a museum which we just walked past. With as many places as there are to eat including Hotel du Casino Omaha Beach and many others, were taken to Bayeux and directed to a few streets to pick our own, but it worked. The following day, we had a rented car and did enjoy this much more at our own pace, but the roads can be a bit confusing so the tour does work well for that. We will go back to Normandy as there are is so much to see. If were to do it again, we should have chosen the American Sectors for us.
