What To Expect

After pickup in central Bayeux, settle inside your air-conditioned minivan with your guide and small group of eight or fewer. Then, begin your 8- to 8.5-hour tour of the battlefields involved in the American troop landings of D-Day in June 1944.

As you travel between the sites, hear about the American military action on that long-ago day, together with background on the wider war, including tales of the German occupation of France and French Resistance, and the stories of individual soldiers.

Make your way to Utah Beach, where the US 4th Infantry Division made their assault. Hear about the events that unfolded here, and call at Sainte-Mère-Église, the small nearby town where paratroopers landed in the early hours of D-Day.

Visit the town’s Airborne Museum to chart the assault before continuing to Pointe du Hoc, a prominent cliff that was the highest point between the Utah and Omaha Beaches. See the bunkers, craters, and German casements and gun pits here, and learn how US Army Rangers scaled the cliffs to seize the battery.

View the monument honoring the rangers and visit Omaha, dubbed ‘Bloody Omaha,’ for being the most intensely fought after of all the landing beaches. Hear why the landings were difficult, and contemplate the vastness of the 4-mile (6.4-kilometer) beach.

After lunch (own expense) at a local restaurant, pay a visit to the US cemetery on the cliffs overlooking Omaha. Explore this heart-rending place with its impressive memorial, and take in the beach from the different vantage point of the cliffs. Before leaving, enjoy time to stroll around independently, perhaps visiting the graves or exploring the Visitor Center to learn about the landings and 9,387 Americans buried here.

Your tour concludes with an early-evening drop-off at Bayeux’s station or Place de Quebec.

So worth it!
Shawn_W, May 2024
Great small tour allowed for pick up & drop off from Paris train. Guide was a local, knew the small roads to get where one of our people's dad had come ashore on D day. Very special, saw many things.
Exceeded Expectations
Steve_H, May 2024
Matthieu was a wonderful guide. We enjoyed the day with him and learned a lot about Normandy and D Day. Taps at the American Cemetery was very moving and a nice end to the day. Thanks to Matthieu for a great day!
Took this tour in April, so it wasn’t crowded. There were just 4 of us. It was nicely paced, with enough time at each sp
Kent_S, Apr 2024
A nice, day-long overview of D-Day our guide, Sophia, was excellent. There was enough time at each spot, but it does make you want to return and explore deeper.
A memorable tour on a very memorable event.
DOUGLAS_S, Apr 2024
A good day tour of the major sites associated with D-Day. Visiting the sites and getting a bird's eye view of what the allies faced was very helpful. Learned a great deal more about each specific site and the successes, failures, accidental good and bad luck. Would recommend this company to anyone. I emailed them through Viator a few times with questions and received prompt answers and even a phone call from them. The only change would be more time on Omaha Beach to actually walk the beach and less time at the cemetery. Utah beach was very interesting as well with a decent lunch (not included) at the restaurant there. The visit to Point du loc and the visit to St Mer Eglise was quite moving as was the paratrooper museum there.
Excellent, the tour was in full detail
Gareth_N, Apr 2024
Everything was explained in detail very well and the tour guide even stopped for 5 minutes so we could see the German cemetery which wasn't part of the tour but because I was eager to see the German war cemetery Rose obliged
100% Recommend!
Randy, Nov 2023
Amazing day. I am so glad we decided to book this tour rather than rent a car a go on our own. Our guide, Victor, was as friendly as he was informative. Went and saw everything I wanted to…and more. Highly recommend! There a total of four in our group, which was great!
A moving and great experience.
Daniel_O, Oct 2023
The church at St Mere-Egise and American cemetery were both beautiful and very moving. I enjoyed learning about and viewing the German cemetery. Our tour guide, Jean Batiste, was very knowledgeable and provided us with historical information as well as local lore. The museums, though time was limited, were worth the visit. Visiting Pointe du Hoc was a special treat Overall, a great experience and highly recommended.
Normandy battlefield tour
Jonathan_N, Oct 2023
There is so much to see in the Normandy area and having a knowledgeable guide taking you to highlights is the most expeditious way to do it. Besides saving time, the guide is very helpful with giving interesting and important facts.
Tremendous Day Trip
William_N, Sep 2023
This day was the highlight of our trip to France. Our guide, Lauren, was knowledgeable and congenial and made every effort to answer our questions. She picked us up at the Bayeux train station promptly and also made sure we made our return train trip that evening. It was a long, but memorable day which we will never forget.
Good value, small group
Paul_L, Aug 2023
All of the stops were excellent. Our guide, Loraine, did a wonderful narrative at each stop with plenty of time to discover each spot.
Memorable
Maria_S, Jun 2023
Our guide Lauren was knowledgeable and passionate. She provided extra information and was clearly devoted to providing us with a memorable tour.
Book this tour!
Helen_H, Jun 2023
Our guide was amazing, his knowledge was incredible and went beyond just information regarding our tour. We learnt more in one day about the DD landings than we have in our life time. He was informative and entertaining and made this trip worth the cost.
Wonderful tour with excellent guide
Kathleen_F, Jun 2023
This tour left me with a greater understanding of the events leading up to, including and what transpired after D Day. Our guide Jean Pierre was extremely knowledgeable about the historical events and interesting facts about Normandy and D Day and he shared them in a way the entire group understood them. I was captivated by his stories and the way he shared information left me wanting to delve deeper into the history myself. JP was an excellent guide and we would highly recommend taking a tour with him. His use of an easy to understand chart/diagram was very helpful as well. JP is an outstanding driver and we always felt safe! He is highly educated but very humble about his level of education. Seriously the best tour we’ve taken since we arrived in Paris 2 weeks ago!
Victor was a great guide...
denise_p, Jun 2023
Victor was a great guide and the entire tour is very informative and moving … there is no way to see as much and get as much information without a tour. The movie The Longest Day comes to life and so much more
Informative tour but better organisation needed
John_S, Jun 2023
This was a most informative tour with a knowledgeable guide, but attention to important interpersonal aspects would have made it more enjoyable. The guide did not introduce himself, nor did he ensure all 7 participants were introduced. He didn’t know our names the entire day. His microphone died early in the morning meaning that sitting in the rear of the minivan resulted in low volume and clarity. We saw and experienced marvellous venues esp as our tour coincided with the 79th Ann of D Day, things that we will cherish in memory. But the overly long 30 min plus explanations whilst standing in the cold will not figure in our memories.
Great Dday Tour With Marion
Ron_G, Jun 2023
Our tour guide, Marion was fabulous, as she explained all the history behind DDay. She made the experience so pleasurable.
Excellent, educational tour
Elizabeth_L, Jun 2023
Our guide, Marion was wonderful, knowledgeable, enthusiastic, excellent English and respectful. I highly recommend this tour amd guide.
Worth the money…. Nice day trip out of Paris
Jon_S, May 2023
The lowering of the US flags at the American cemetery was the best. Our guide was very knowledgeable. The price for what we got was very reasonable.
Well planned tour!
Joe_M, May 2023
Victor was a great tour guide. Extremely knowledgeable in World War II and able to answer all of our questions during the tour. The tour was planned well with just enough time in each location and perfect for viewing the lowering of the flags ceremony at the American Cemetery at the end of the day. Victor got us back to the train station for our return to Paris with plenty of time to spare. For anyone that’s interested, this tour works well with the train arriving from Paris at 8:43 in the morning and returning at 6:30 in the evening.
Fascinating tour of important historical sites with a wonderful guide!
Beverly_S, May 2023
We had a wonderful day with Victor as our guide throughout Normandy. He was extremely knowledgeable and amiable, and was excited to share the history and stories about each point of interest. As an aside, his English was perfect and he was excited to pass along the history he clearly knows very well. Despite the cold and wind on our tour day, we had a fantastic experience! Thank you.
