Off the beaten track New York history
Ellis_B, Jan 2023
A tour for thé lover of the off the beaten path. I had seen the Brooklyn Army Terminal both from the BQE and the NYC Ferry and knew there must be a story there, too immense not to have been important for something at some point in history, but assumed its glory days were somewhere in NY’s past. That, I found out, was both true and false. Because it was a cold and rainy day, and precisely because the BAT is off the beaten path, I was the sole participant that day and so instead of having to hold all my questions and thoughts to myself as one usually does on tours, I was able to walk and talk with Andrew, my guide. I found him to be thoroughly steeped in the history and lore of the BAT, and after my two hour visit, I came away knowing much more about a place that was very important to America’s war effort in WWII. And continues to play a role in the development of New York City. I’ll leave it to you to take the tours and fill in the blanks for yourself. Highly recommend!
