    Great Road Tour
    johninnm, Sep 2019
Last Friday, my wife and I went on one of the best road tours we have ever taken. The tour with driver/guide Alex, was to the Transfagarasan region which we discovered to be extremely scenic. Alex provided a very complete and good natured commentary during the more than 500 km trip. We highly recommend both the tour and Alex. The entire experience was great.

I cannot speak more highly about this tour and our guide, Chip, who was a wonderful companion throughout our day visiting Vlad the Impaler's Citadel, the Transfagarasan Road, the lake at the top, and the monastery where the Romanian royal family is buried. This is a MUST tour for anyone wanting to experience the real Romania. The Citadel involves a long climb over 1500 steps but Chip was very patient and gave us ample time to reach the top. The views from the Citadel are breathtaking. After lunch, we drove up along the famous Transfagarasan Road which Top Gear has named the most beautiful road in the world. They were right! No words can explain the experience of viewing this road. Chip, our guide, gave us ample stops to take photographs and take in the sheer wonder of this landscape. The lake at the top is also a bucket list experience. Chip was entirely at our disposal and was eager to make our trip as memorable as possible. He is extremely knowledgeable, very friendly and a joy to spend the day with touring through the Romanian countryside. He has his own car and is able to offer Wifi free of charge, which allowed us to send our pics to family via WhatsApp whilst on our journey. His English is perfect and he clearly loves his job. DO THIS TOUR !!!
    The best tour ever!

We would like to share our impressions and opinions about this tour. First of all we would like to say that we highly recommend this tour for everyone who’s not afraid a few hour drive and height. Our tour began early in morning, but very conveniently directly front of our hotel. First stop led us to look at the ruins of Poenari fortress on top of the mountain. The fortress has very interesting history and the view is breathtaking. Our guide Chip warned us before arriving, that in order to reach the ruins, we have to climb 1480 steps up and down as well, but all this effort was worth it, because the view from there was wonderful. The next stop for our tour was near Vidraru dam and lake, where we walk and enjoy wonderful views of the mountains and lake and same time our guide talked interesting facts about the dam. Our journey continued along the Transfăgărășan mounten route, all the breathtaking views, what you can see and enjoy, it’s just wonderful. At the end of Transfăgărășan mountain route high point, we saw wonderful mountain lake and even more breathtaking views of the mountains and the surrounding area. When you arrive at the mountain top, it is definitely worthwhile to try the food offered by local people, which tastes great. After all the pictures and videos were taken, we headed back to the Bucharest. The journey to the mountains and back was paved with our tour guide Chip, who spoke a lot of fascinating Romanian history an a lot of interesting facts about it.Our last stop take us to Curtea de Arges Monastery. Which was also interesting because the history of the place.Even though there was a lot of driving around all day long, it was all worth it!We warmly recommend this to everyone.Special thanks go to the our driver-guide Chip, who made this tour so exciting and interesting for us.See you next year!
