I loved seeing specific, historical places in Charleston. Walking historical streets and learning about the history of the city.
Our tour guide was fantastic and gave us very detailed historical information . He was great!
Maggie_M, Apr 2024
This was our first time in Charleston and this tour really helped us get to know the city as well as its history.
One of the best tours we’ve ever experienced Al, our guide, was simply phenomenal!
ROBIN_D, Apr 2024
Charleston is a wonderful city, rich in history and Al, our guide brought all that history to life !
Just do it.
Kevin_D, Mar 2024
Weather was perfect for a stroll though historic Charleston. Erik was the perfect southern gentleman to lead us along the way. I enjoyed the mixture and intertwined information from history and architecture.
Great tour

Despite the rain, had an enjoyable informative experience. Tour guide knew his stuff, made it pleasurable enough.
Response from Host, Mar 2024
Thank you for the kind review. Unfortunately we cannot control the weather, but we do go out rain or shine. I actually have a rain route which reduces exposure to the elements, but you can't always beat mother nature! We hope the tour enhanced your Charleston Experience which, as any local will attest, often includes rain and flooding.
Lots of detail.

Al, the tour guide was very informative. Nice small group for the tour. He was punctual and gave a great insight into Charleston and the history of the area and Charleston during the civil war. I would recommend this tour.
Great way to start our trip...
Kathleen_C, Jan 2024
Small group made it possible for our guide to ask what we were interested in seeing. Lots of informative, fun stories. Brought the town's history to life. Been on 2 other tours on other trips to Charleston. This was my favorite.
Response from Host, Jan 2024
Kathleen, thank you so much for this excellent review! Perhaps you enjoyed this tour over others is because our three team members have 90 plus years in Charleston Tourism. We know the Historic District inside and out. Many guides, even those hired by the largest companies, have set routes from which they do not deviate, so they will never field a group for topics. We are so glad that we were able to impart context that enriched your Charleston Experience! Come see us again and send your friends.
Great tour.
Cindy_G, Nov 2023
The tour guide seemed to know where the best views were and he had an excellent knowledge of the history. He was also very respectful and kind.
A wonderful introduction to Charleston.
Joan_M, Nov 2023

Screaming child in the tour so my daughter had to leave the tour! Bob was great as a guide but we couldn’t hear him!!
Response from Host, Nov 2023
We are so osrry this happened to you! This is a difficult situation since some people fail to realize that their child is being disruptive, and don't appreciate correction! Since you didn't finish the tour you can contact us for a refund. We hope you enjoyed the rest of your time in our beautiful city!
Experience is based largely on the guide and their knowledge base.
Pamela_F, Jul 2023
While our tour guide Al was pleasant and folksy, the information he gave on his tour was incorrect. For example, he said the synagogue in Charleston was the oldest in the US and it's not. He spoke at length about how slaves were free to come and go and would sell their surplus goods at market, but we realized after the tour, that he was talking about indentured servants and not slaves. He spoke about the benefits of slavery and the skills the slaves received before becoming free after 7 years. He said children didn't work in the fields until they were 12 years old, but we learned after that they were in the fields at a much younger age. We had to go on another tour to get a better perspective of slavery in Charleston and the international and domestic slave trade that occurred downtown. We suggest re-education of Al to update his knowledge. We were confused on most of the tour about the credibility of what he was telling us.
A Step Back in Charleston Time

I researched several different city walking tours before picking this tour. Our guide, Al Ray, was extremely knowledgeable and entertaining. Our group did a different tour (with another operator) and we were very disappointed. We strongly recommend Viator's Charleston Old Walled City Historical Tour.

Jamie_W, Jun 2023
Al was incredibly informative of Charleston’s history. We ended up getting a private tour when the other group didn’t show up and Al dove deep into facts and answered any and all of our questions.
Historical and informative
Cindy_H, Jun 2023
Super informative! We learned so much she was so knowledgeable. It was a beautiful, walk beautiful things to see. My only recommendation would be for the tour guide to speak more loudly I have a megaphone or a speaker or something. Our multigenerational family went (2,7,11, and 80, and the rest of us adults). Definitely recommend.
