Chennai City in a Day!

Our private tour of Chennai city was fun and educational. We visited numerous temples, including the interesting Ramakrishna Universal Temple, with architectural elements from many religions and open to everyone, and the ornate 7th-century Hindu Kapaleeshwarar Temple to the god Shiva, where we smashed coconuts to have a wish come true and tried the local coffee. We had a great vegetarian lunch at A2B of different Thali - South Indian and North Indian cuisines so we got to sample everything. In the afternoon we visited the beautiful San Thome Basilica where the tomb of the apostle Thomas lies. We walked around the crumbling Fort St George, established by the English in 1639 and finished up at the Chennai Lighthouse for views of the city and Marina Beach. Our guide, Satish B, was an excellent source of information and attentive to our needs (it was VERY hot) and our car was well air conditioned and the driver had plenty of water so we could keep hydrated.
