What To Expect

An admission ticket to the Flamingo Gardens Botanical Garden and Everglades Wildlife Sanctuary is a ticket to a rare tropical paradise — 60 acres (24 hectares) to be exact. It is a not-for-profit wildlife sanctuary, aviary and botanical garden located just west of Fort Lauderdale.

The gardens were originally the property of Floyd and Jane Wray, who built a home and citrus grove here in 1933. At the time, it was at the edge of the Everglades, where they started a collection of tropical and subtropical fruit trees and shrubs. The Wray home still stands today. In fact, it’s now a museum illustrating a country home in the early 1930s.

The attractions inside Flamingo Gardens are plentiful. The Wray Botanical Collection has over 3,000 tropical and subtropical plants and trees. It is also home to some of the largest trees of their kind, according to the Florida Forest Service.

The wildlife sanctuary boasts the largest collection of native-Florida wildlife in the entire state. Check out alligators, bobcats, otters, eagles, bears, panthers, peacocks and, of course, the famous flamingos. Plus, more than 250 birds fly free in the magnificent aviary.

Catch a Wildlife Encounter Show, plus a narrated 25-minute tram tour that runs every 30 minutes throughout the day.

Hungry? Purchase sandwiches, salads, smoothies and other snacks and beverages at one of the on-site eateries — the Flamingo Cafe offers some incredible views of the gardens to boot. At the gift shop, pick up unique tropical plants and accessories for your patio.

My friend and I got off of a cruise to the Caribbean and we had plenty of time to do this excursion. I loved the beautiful plants and trees and flowers and especially of course the flamingos!
Not the best, but an OK time.

Good for kids, but not the best we've been to. Grounds seem well kept and several projects underway, but they are needed to make this a great venue. Tram ride was OK but seemed hurried. It would be better if they would actually stop long enough to take pictures of what they point out. But seems like we stopped long enough to get a glimpse, and then moving again. Not a bad way to spend a couple of hours, so I hope they upgrade to make it an awesome experience.
Take time to visit!

Nice little park, many trees and animals. So go and get it. I love it. Buddy was really cute and you can also feed the flamingos
Great park, doing everything right.
Kenneth_H, Aug 2023
This park is a sanctuary, not a zoo. The employees are kind and knowledgeable. They care about their animals as well as their guests. The park is beautiful and clean, and the enclosures are clean and large, and there are obvious signs that the mental health of their animals is well considered.
Great trip

Greatest experience ever. Feeding flamingos was the greatest part of the trip. I also enjoyed the ride around the park with a tour guide. There were so many beautiful things to see. There is also such great history surrounding the garden. I can’t wait to come back again.
