Excellent adventure
Thomas_T, Apr 2024
Entire tour was fantastic. From pickup at the hotel, to tasting the one of the world's best tequilas and seeing some of the most fascinating archeological remains, best tour in town!
Great Day!
Kathleen_P, Apr 2024
Guachimontones was really special. It’s a sacred and impressive site with a really nice visitor center with a video to watch. I think our guide, Jesus, made it all the more wonderful. He has great knowledge about the site and his enthusiasm shows in his face when he’s talking about it. We also went to a family run small tequila distillery and learned all about the process. Once again, Jesus was very knowledgeable and described all the steps. Of course we tasted all different tequilas and even digestive tequila for after dinner that comes in different flavors. It was a really great way to spend a day!
Value for money, recommendable
RINSE_K, Mar 2024
lot of value for money, Guachimontones is a great place to go... some might say not as beautiful as some other archaeological locations, but much older and, in my view, more special. The Tequila part of the tour is also lots of value for money, with some great tasting experiences
Excellent private tour to many fun places
Rocio_R, Feb 2024
We truly enjoyed the entire day, great ride to all places, despite having a rainy day our tour guide did a phenomenal job. We learned a lot about this UNESCO place, had fun at Tequila city and visited “cantaritos El Guero”. The lowlight was the tequila distillery place, you can skip this stop. Thank you for making our day so much fun Mauricio.
Best trip, EVER!
Sharon_R, Feb 2024
Renzo was an awesome driver and guide. He was very knowledgeable and patient with the traffic, and us!
Trip not as advertised…
Michael_G, Feb 2024
We did not have the trip described in this listing. I booked this private tour with three friends. I regularly use tours like this on vacation to take advantage of local knowledge and expertise. Prior to booking I read the reviews of others- including the negative ones. I felt I knew what I was getting into. It was possibly going to be a driver that would take us to different sites and handoff to english-speaking guides or distillery staff at the various locations to tell us about what we were seeing. I would start off by saying that our driver, Alberto was a very nice man and was a safe driver. I’d say that his English skills were not the best, he frequently did not understand me, and we had to use Google Translate several times during the day. But he was kind (ex. it was raining that day and he helped my friend find a place to buy an umbrella). Usually at the start of the tour, the guide sets some expectations: there’s a rundown of the places you’ll see, a review of the schedule, and what to expect. None of this happened. His car smelled quite strongly of cigarettes, and all of our clothes smelled like cigarette smoke by the end of the day. He picked us up on time at our hotel, and took us to Guachimontones 1st. When we arrived at the site we were told that all the English-speaking guides were serving other groups (evidence that the tour company had not requested this in advance). Our driver escorted us around. We watched a 15 minute video in English at the interpretive center. He was not able to answer any additional questions we had about the site. We got back in the car and went to was supposed to be our first of two tequila tastings. Rather than having something selected, our guide asked us which facility or kind of facility we would want to go to. None of us knew any of the facilities or much about tequila at all. He ended up picking a place - and again we had a long wait for an English-speaking guide. More evidence that nothing was really arranged/planned ahead of time. The tequila tour, and tasting was interesting and enjoyable once it happened. At this point, since we were quite a bit behind schedule-wise, he took us to the town of tequila. We were supposed to have two hours. We got a quick lunch on our own (no suggestions of where to eat). We got to walk around for maybe 20 minutes before he texted to let us know we needed to leave. We did not get a second tequila tasting and we did not get to go to the last stop, which was supposed to be some sort of indoor/outdoor tequila bar. Because we got behind schedule, we got stuck in terrible rush-hour traffic on the way back. It was a long drive. We were supposed to get back around 3 or 4 pm. We did not get back until after 6 PM. It just felt like our guide was not very well equipped to be a guide. The tour company really didn’t set anything up ahead of time so that there would be staff ready for us when we arrived. it just felt like a bit of a disappointment because it could have been so much more. I wouldn’t recommend this tour to a friend.

Hola Michael, Thank you for taking the time to share your detailed feedback about your recent private tour experience. We sincerely apologize for the discrepancies between the tour description and the actual experience you encountered. First and foremost, we appreciate your acknowledgment of Alberto's efforts as our driver. We're glad to hear that he ensured your safety throughout the journey, despite the language barrier and other challenges you faced. We understand your disappointment regarding the lack of clear communication and expectations setting at the beginning of the tour, as well as the unplanned delays and deviations from the itinerary. Your concerns regarding the cigarette smell in the car and the unavailability of English-speaking guides at certain locations are duly noted, and we will address these issues with our team to prevent similar occurrences in the future. It's regrettable that you were unable to fully enjoy the tequila tastings and explore the town of Tequila as originally planned. We acknowledge that the rushed schedule and unexpected traffic further compounded your dissatisfaction with the experience. Please be assured that we take your feedback seriously, and we will use it constructively to improve our tour operations and ensure a more seamless and enjoyable experience for our guests in the future. We sincerely apologize for falling short of your expectations and appreciate your honesty in sharing your thoughts. We hope you will consider giving us another opportunity to provide you with a better experience in the future. Thank you again for your valuable feedback. Saludos,
Fun Day trip from Guadalajara

Visiting Guachimontes was really interesting and educational, at the end of the visit, theres is very nice museum where you can complement and get more info about the site. The distillery was fun and interesting, our guide Fernanda was knowledgeable and she made it interesting.
Personable and Very Interesting!
Michael_P, Jan 2024
This was an excellent tour! Jesus was very knowledgeable and a lot of fun to talk with. One of the best parts of this tour being private was that we could spend as much time as we wanted in each area without feeling rushed. Everything was very interesting too; I found the history of Guachimontones especially fascinating. We also stopped at an excellent carnitas spot for lunch!
Do not miss a visit to Guachimontones with Jesus.
Farnaz_A, Dec 2023
Jesus is an excellent tour guide. He speaks english perfectly, could tell us about the history at Guachimontones and was very patient with us. He made us feel comfortable, adjusted the fellow and pace as we needed and share his knowledge about guadelejara, what to do, what to avoid, etc openly. We couldn't have asked for a better guide. Highly highly recommended.
Very fun, but could use more time at the distillery
Emmanuel_S, Dec 2023
Great experience and super convenient with the pick up options. We had a great time and the guides were very friendly and accommodating. Guachimontones are definitely worth seeing. The tour at the distillery was a bit shorter than we would have liked but still enjoyed. Lots of great photo ops too.
A magical adventure with Jesus and Jenn
Diane_W, Nov 2023
We had a fascinating day with Jesus and his partner Jenn. They both spoke excellent English and were most accommodating and kind. We never felt anxious with the drive as Jesus is a careful driver which is noteworthy in Mexico with the traffic in Guadalajara. Jesus was knowledgeable about the mysterious ruins in Guachimontones to the extent that is known about this ancient civilization. (before 350 AD- older than the Mayans and Aztecs). They showed us the special places in Tequilla for drinks, a meal topped by a huge poco loco dance area with 2 load bands playing simultaneously to witness the joyfulness of Mexico. Very highly recommended tour. Ask for Jesus! Diane and J.R.
Would have preferred a big group tour
Mike_M, Nov 2023
The destinations both get at least a 4 or even a 5-star rating; my rating for this experience is for the "private tour". The main thing is that our driver was a lovely guy but not a tour guide, he could not answer any but the most basic questions about Mexico or what we were seeing. He drove us safely to each stop where guides for that specific stop took over. Unfortunately on the day we went we got guides whose English was so heavily accented that we resorted to reading google/Wikipedia to educate ourselves. We were very happy that we saw and learned about Guachimontones, and Tequila is super cute and fun, so recommend you do it but not with this package.
Response from Host, Nov 2023
Hola Mike, Thank you for your feedback. We appreciate your positive remarks about the destinations and our driver. We apologize for any inconvenience caused by the limited information during the private tour and the language barrier with the local guides. Your comments are noted, and we're actively working on improvements. We're glad you enjoyed Guachimontones and Tequila. Your recommendation means a lot. We hope to serve you again with an enhanced experience. Feel free to reach out if you have further comments. Saludos, Jorge Villarruel
Great tour

Loved the tour. Had a great experience. Our driver Jesus was wonderful. Would definitely recommend it.
Ideal Day Trip from Guadalajara

Guachimontones & Tequila
Vicky_M, Nov 2023
We had a wonderful time on this tour. We had a senior citizen in our group and, Hugo, our driver was very kind and accommodating. The tour guide at Guachimontones were incredibly knowledgeable and we learned so much. Thank you to them. We also enjoyed the tequila distillery. Very authentic and not overly commercial, which fit our style.
Awesome Private Tour with Mauricio to Guanchimontones and Tequila
Catherine_T, Nov 2023
The Private Tour was ideal for us since we were interested in the history and could ask questions at our leisure. We were very pleased with the outcome, it was very enjoyable. Tour guide: Mauricio is a very experienced and learned guide. His schooling in electrical and mechanical engineering as well as the history of Guadalajara made for a superb tour. He knows how to meet guests’ needs and takes you in a comfortable, air-conditioned car. Being bilingual in English and Spanish is wonderful for those needing 100% English or Spanish or any capability in between. He speaks from his heart and.shares his pride of Mexico. Tour of Guanchimontones: the tour guide, Umberto, passionately shares the impressive history of the site both through knowledge but also by demonstrating how the ancient people passed down stories, danced, played ball games, and organized their towns. Mauricio continued the tour through the museum describing the ancient timeline, drawings, and accompanying us during the informative video. Lunch downtown Tequila at Mis Esperanza was delicious and perfect prior to enjoying samples of tequila. Our walkabout was perfectly timed to see the acrobatic show of the Four Voladores who represent Earth, Air, Fire, and Water. Tour of Tequila’s Tres Mujeres distillery: this is a must see tour that shares real, live processes from cutting the blue agave into “piñas”, crushing, steaming, and allowing the slurries to ferment where you could see fermentation in action. The walk through the underground storage caves was awesome with beautifully lit ceilings, tasting rooms, and classical music for the optimal aging of the valuable Santanera tequila.
Incredible archaeology and tequila tour
Russ_M, Oct 2023
This was an absolutely fantastic trip that we would highly recommend! Koyote Tours and Jesus our guide were tremendous. The communication was excellent, Jesus picked us up right on time. Jesus walked us around the park and gave us additional history beyond what the museum told us, and gave us a lot of time there. He then took us to a high-end tequila factory where we got to taste several tequilas. He then took us to tequila town and showed us the good restaurants for lunch and the beautiful and colorful places to visit. He made sure we were back on time- we cut our own tour short because we had to do something else. On the way back we made time to stop and take photos in the agave fields and at the tequila sign. One of the best via tors ever!
Worth it!
Calvin_L, Sep 2023
Our guide Jesús was punctual, friendly, and informative. This tour was a great opportunity to hit both the Guachimontones and Tequila in one day. Do note that the full experience will likely last longer than the 6–7 hours stated here (we left at 9am and returned around 6pm) and the exact itinerary may differ slightly (we went to a different distillery), but neither of those points impacted the experience or our other plans. Overall a very fun day trip!
Wonderful Guadalajara Experience beyond Tequila
WANGCHANGALBE_G, Jun 2023
This is by far our best Mexican tour, and our guide Ricardo Reyes is not only highly knowlegeable about all the stops in the tour, but speaks perfect English - Ricardo is American educated, BTW. Learning the history about the Guachimontones people, who lived there for more than 600 years starting 300+ years BC was very special experience for us. The trip to Tequila and experiece the roadside bar watching people really having a good time made our day as well. We highly recommend this tour, especially, guided by the one and only Ricardo Reyes.
10/10
