What To Expect

After being picked up by your guide at your hotel, you’ll cycle five miles (eight kilometers) into the Pu'u 'Ohia rainforest. A fun ride for all skill levels, your nature guide will lead you through the lush landscape that promises many scenic views of Oahu. Rain gear will be provided to keep you dry, as well as a helmet.

As you go, your guide will provide commentary about the flora, fauna and geology of the islands. You’ll hear the sounds of tropical birds echoing through the trees as you pedal along.

To extend your adventure, include a 1.5-hour hiking tour with your guide. Head into Oahu’s volcanic rainforest to continue exploring the rare plant and wildlife of the Hawaiian Islands. A mild to moderate hike, you’ll look out on acres of sacred land not commonly seen by visitors.

You will conclude your Oahu bike tour and optional hiking excursion with drop-off back at your hotel.

Ray was our guide for the hike to the waterfalls. He was extremely knowledgeable about the island’s land masses, trees, and history. It was clear he loves his island. It was a fun but muddy hike and the waterfalls were stunning! The hike was followed by a downhill bike ride. The excursion was fun and I learned a lot more about the history and natural habitat of Oahu, as well as a few Hawaiian words. Recommend to those who like to be active and want to better understand the island’s beautiful landscape.

Mixed feelings
Ruchika_D, May 2023
I liked the hike & biking experience. The guides were very knowledgeable & informative. However, I found the tour not handled too professionally considering the amount they charged us. Our tour was supposed to be from 9am to 5 pm. But we were done by 2:45 pm . Out of which the hike was just 1 hour & biking was about 50 minutes. Rest of the time was spent in pick ups & commuting. Did feel a bit cheated & overcharged.

Aloha Ruchika, Thank you so much for posting your review. We appreciate this. Our Bike and Hike tour is from 9am to 3pm, (not 5pm). This tour includes a visit to two different sides of the island, so commuting is needed to showcase the island to our guests. We hope you will join us again for another hike to a private property where we have exclusive access high above west Oahu. Commuting will be required again to get the good places. Best of fun on the rest of your vacation. Aloha from all of us here at BikeHawaii.com

Very knowledgeable and professional. Safety was paramount. Great views and no pedalling! The hike was canceled due to tree trimming on the trail, but he substituted 2 hours of snorkeling at no extra charge. I would recommend to friends and family.
Brilliant Day Out
Gary_M, Dec 2022
This is a perfect day out for fit, active, sporty travellers. Firstly there is a hike through the rainforest. Be careful, as it gets slippery and don't wear expensive trainers (sneakers) as there is quite a lot of mud. The scenery is stunning. Following the hike, the second part of the tour is a cycle ride. As stated in the description and in some other reviews, this is 100% downhill - so don't expect a strenuous workout. I did feel sore after the hike though. All in all a great wat to see a different part of Oahu and get away from Waikiki for the day.
not an actual bike tour
olivia_c, Sep 2022
for the cost it was not worth it, from the description it said 3 hours so i’m thinking we would be atleast riding for 2 hours instead you rode for 30 mins it seems going downhill the whole time. my iwatch said i burned 27 calories, i was so disappointed as i love bike tours when i travel and this was not a bike tour. there’s a hike that comes with it which was nice but again could be easily done without a tour guide. definitely maybe something for people who don’t bike much. the tour guides are extremely nice. other than that i wouldn’t recommend for anyone looking for a bike tour.

Aloha Olivia, I was surprised to read your review. The name of our tour is "Honolulu Downhill Bike and Waterfall Hike Tour" It is sold as a downhill, because it is pretty much all downhill which makes it so popular. Our guides take pride in sharing our island home with visitors from around the globe, because the Hawaiian Islands are so unique and a visitor gets more out of a destination on a guided tour. We hope you will join us again someday and perhaps try our eBIke Honolulu Rainforest tour: also known as 10-miles of Smiles. Scale back the electric-assist and you can burn plenty of calories and you just might not finish this bike tour. With aloha and smiles from your faithful crew, a hui hou!
Great tour
Thomas_G, Jan 2019
The tour guides were fantastic providing some great information on the area. The bike ride was just as it was advertised, very little pedaling. Prepare to do a lot of braking on the trek down winding countryside. We had a great time. Would definitely recommend to allow for a lazy morning before spending the afternoon on this tour.

Our tour guide Brooke was wonderful. She was informative and knowledgable of the area and terrain. She was pleasant and accommodated our group for speed. I enjoyed the informational hike through the rainforest and would highly recommend if you are looking for a leisure hike. If you want a really laid back bike ride then this is also for you. Personally I would have preferred a longer hike and a more vigorous bike ride. Signing up with Viatour was the right choice for not having been to Oahu before.

Rain Forest hike is optional but would rate it the best parts of this trip. Guide was VERY informative on all local animals and plants.

Pretty fun experience riding downhill on the bike, very easy coasting with a break in the middle for lunch. Yes there is a tiny uphill bit but that lasts for about a minute. They're very big on safety so don't expect to race down the hill like a maniac - if you want to do that you should get up there on your own and DIY it. The bike ride takes place in the Honolulu Watershed Forest Reserve.

The guides were great but the trip was an hour and a half and that included set up time and lunch. The trip down was good but should have been longer.

Terrii was the best guide ever - the other guides who joined us in the afternoon for the biking part were great too. The hiking was nice and smooth though there were parts a little more tricky. I wish I had known that a three-part day was offered: some people were doing a sailing/snorkling tour after the bike, but i had never received the offer.

Loved our guide. He was very informative and helpful. My only complaint would be about the length of the bike tour itself. We all wished it had been longer and not necessarily all downhill.

AWESOME hike on a AWESOME trail. SO great to be off the tourist route and be in a small group. Jeremy was a great guide and you could tell he loved what he is doing. Took special care to see the kids on the tour were informed and interest in everything they saw. Biking was an enjoyable ride down the mountain with great views and geared for all of us. Relaxing adventure and nice to get away from the city. P.S. I also heard that the family that stayed and went on the snorkeling adventure after had a great time and saw amazing things. We were so glad to see our van driver/ bike hauler the next day on our kayaking trip. These guys were awesome.

The hike was interesting and the guide was great. Bit muddy, take the rubber boots when offered. The ride is easy and amazing views.

Darr H, Feb 2014
This bike ride was way overpriced and a huge disappointment. The description made it sound like the ride took you through a wilderness-type place, when in reality we rode through a neighborhood with quite a few cars sharing the rode. The trip was supposed to be 3 hours and we were back to our hotel within 2 and that time included a lot of waiting around. The bike ride took maybe 30 minutes. We were also promised a lunch. We stopped at a wide spot on the busy road (trash was all over the place) and were given 1/2 of a sandwich, with some other snacks. 1/2 of a sandwich and a 30 minute ride in a neighborhood for $59 per person...really? As a side note, the guides were nice and gave us some historical information and a little about the area. In summary I doubt I will use Viator again and will never use this tour operator again.

It was a lovely way to spend a couple of hours. The bikes are super comfy with high handle bars suited to coasting down hills. The staff are fun and the group participating was really sociable. We wished we had done the morning hike as well. If you want a challenge do the mountain bike trip instead.
