He met us at the cruise terminal. He took us around to several local markets and restaurants. Our last sto was a small local restaurant and he ordered local food for us. He was born in Hawaii and told us about a lot of the history of the area and of the food. He went through what food was original and what was brought in. The poi wasn’t as bad as I had been to.d.

Wonderful guide and fantastic food

This was a fabulous experience. We loved the history than Lanai provided behind the various foods we ate. The food we had was wonderful! So flavorful and not something you get at a luau. We fell in love with all of it especially the ube! We would take this journey again, especially if Lanai was our guide!!

Absolutely amazing time with Lanai. If you do nothing else during your stay, do this! We have done quite a few private tours, including food and this was hands down the best. Lanai shared the true history of Hawai'i through food. We experienced foods that we didn't even knew existed, and Lanai shared about how the different areas have changed. This tour would be perfect for people that enjoy getting out of the touristy spots and truly experiencing the local food scene. The grocery store we stopped at blows Wegmans out of the park and wish we had one back home.

Best food tour in Hawaii, hands down. Lanai took us to amazing eateries and we were able to try authentic Hawaiian foods in the area. My absolute favorite was the ube dessert and the manapua but honestly, all the food we tasted was spectacular. It was awesome being guided by Lanai and it was a small group, just me and my friend and it offered us an opportunity to ask as many questions as possible. He’s super knowledgeable not only in Hawaiian foods but in other cuisines as well. The drive was smooth in his Tesla and I would highly recommend this to anyone who is a foodie and looking to eat where the locals go.

Hawaiian Food for Real Foodies

This is THE foodie tour. Real authentic Hawaiian, not the commercial stuff at luaus. He takes you to hidden diners in industrial parks, a family owned noodle factory, the best place for fresh, hot taro chips, etc. This is for people who want to eat like well informed locals. This is not garlic shrimp and a scoop of rice. Highly recommend!!

We were picked up by our cordial, friendly, informative tour guide. We loved the grocery store, learned much about foods native to Hawaii that we do not see in the states. Loved the blend of snacks (chips), main course and dessert. Time line was perfect. Travel was very pleasant/comfortable.

Lanai and Shawn were incredible hosts. We found the whole experience to be friendly, eductational and very, very filling. It was great to try all of the different dishes and learn the origins of each dish. Most importantly, the welcome and hospitality were so warm. We felt like we were long lost friends and, frankly, that made the experience even better. I wish I could rate over 5 on this. We will absolutely take this tour again.

Lanai was a wonderful guide. He is very personable and he was very informative on the Hawaiian culture and food. He took us to places a tourist would never find and told us about the local food and customs. Come with an empty stomach because the food just keeps coming.
