Essential to Have a Knowledgeable Guide to Ancient Troy…

Had a fantastic time touring around Ancient Troy. Without a knowledgeable guide, it just looks like random rubble of various stone walls. Our guide Simke or Cindy was excellent at bringing the history to life with context and archaeological evidence of what likely happened. As an expert on the Iliad, it was great to hear her connect the dots from the Iliad to the actual structures on site. Your company was very efficient in picking up, providing breaks and meals, driving and ferrying us to Ancient Troy. There’s a very high ratio of transit time to touring time, but this company managed it quite well. Def download some music or videos because you’ll be in transit for at least 8-10 hrs….

The walk around the ruins of Troy, to be able to sense the ancient city as it might have been, and the interweaving of the history and the myth made it come alive. I had known about Troy and the stories associated with it. the displays were informative and interesting.

Wonderful Experience

Wonderful experience. The pick up was right on time. We travelled in a very comfortable minibus to the breakfast stop where you can buy a full meal or just snacks. It's then onto the lunch stop at a traditional Turkish Restaurant in the Gallipoli area. Our lovely guide Simge then took us across the Dardanelles by ferry. Our first stop was the Wooden Horse used in the 2004 film Troy. It was then onto Troy itself. As someone who loves the works of Homer and Ancient Greece it was wonderful to be in the ancient city. Simge is a great guide and told us so much about the different layers of the city as she took us around the entire site. It was then back to the ferry then onto an evening stop for food or snacks in the same place as breakfast. We were then dropped back to our hotel in Istanbul. The drivers were extremely good, our guide was fantastic, and we highly recommend this tour and the tour company.

Troy is a must to visit.

Loved the day tour to Troy and was amazed at the ruins and the history connected with this site. Visited the Troy Museum as well which was an added bonus. Highly recommend.

Long day trip but worth it!

Hotel pickup went smoothly. The drive was fine, with restroom and food stops along the way. Our guide was great at explaining the history of the city and the significance of the different layers. The site itself is fairly compact with a raised boardwalk and numerous stairs giving visitors a view of various structures. There are restrooms and also a small souvenir shop. The horse replica was being reconstructed at the time of our visit. The tour did stop for a photo opportunity at the the horse replica from the Troy movie so if you absolutely must have a horse picture, that's your best bet for now. The drive back into istanbul and hotel drop off was pretty much the reverse of the morning. The driver was kind enough to drop me off at a different location that was closer to my final destination.

Recommend this tour. Enjoyed the tour and the travel to get there. Although was disappointed that we couldn't see the trojan horse as it's under renovation. Also, would've liked it if we also had time to visit the Troy museum as well.

Don’t be misled, you won’t see the horse in the picture. You won’t be able to see it as it is under construction. They would only tell you when the date is near. In our case, we were already on tour and had limited internet connection so we only saw it the day before the trip. They wouldn’t let us cancel despite the misinformation in their ad (for the horse that we will see). The horse was under renovation 6 months ago, but the pictures still show that the horse will be there and there was no disclaimer that it is actually being renovated. Since we weren’t getting refunded, we went on with the tour. I was hoping they would salvage the already unpleasant experience. However, our tour guide was always in a rush, he would not let us stop to take pictures. We were also with senior citizens, and would not even wait for them. He compressed the tour of the ancient city in an hour an a half. This is actually the only thing you’ll get for this tour. The tour operator is difficult to deal with. Save yourself from this inconvenience. I do not recommend this tour and this operator.

Dear Karla Thank you for your review. We inform all the travellers about the horse while informing them about the exact pick up time and place when the date is near since they started the renovation. Your tour was on the 3rd of November. And we sent you the message on the 28th of October ( 6 days before the departure date ) Claiming not to have the internet connection for 6 days is not credible. According to the cancellation policy of Viator no cancellation is available in less then 24 hrs of the the departure date and you tried to cancel 10 hrs before by contacting the customer care. I guess you booked this tour only to see the wooden horse. You were not interested in the mythology and archeology part of the ancient site.And you saw the horse which was used in the movie. The tour itself in the site takes about 1.5 / 2 hrs depending on the size and interest of the group and the weather. We never misinformed the travellers about the duration.You can check the other reviews. Despite we have no fault we tried our best to make you happy by saying yes to all of your demands. We wish we did not. It is really dissapointing to get this review despite all the effort to make you happy. And we believe it is written in bad intention. Safe Travels Crowded House Tours Team

4000 years in a few hours

It is difficult to compress 4000 years into a few hours but the guide did that very well. The only criticism was that there was no time to look at the site in your own time.

Visiting the historical site of Troy was memorable. Our guide did a very good job describing the history of Troy 1-9, plus Troy 0. The tour company arranged the whole tour very well. There was no logistical hick-up.

i loved it! seeing a part of human history, which is also part of great literature, was amazing. our guide to troy (burak) was a great history teacher, contextualizing ruins and archeological finds with whatever history lessons are taught in school. it was a phenomenal experience.

It was such a fun tour to include a ferry ride and Burak was great to bring the city of Troy (Troia) alive. He has a wealth of knowledge that he shares and answers all your questions. He did a great job with the group.

The distance is toooooooo looking and there is nothing really wooow to see. The Troy's horse is not available to see it (you can see my photos) and nobody told us about this. So 4 hours to go and 4 hours to return to see nothing... doesn't really makes sense. Doesn't worth it at all. The tour guides were AMAZING they tried their best to make the experience better.

The Trojan Horse in Troy is under reconstruction. The authorities can not give an exact time when it will finish. That's why we can not give an exact information. We replace it with the Trojan Horse from the famous movie Troy. Troy ancient site is like a jigsaw puzzle you have to put the pieces in mind ( mythology, archeology and what you see on the site ) Have a safe travel Best Regards

The whole trip around Troy was awesome. It took less than 1 hour, but we learned a lot. I also enjoyed the ferry from Eceabat to Canakkale. The bus trip from Istanbul is quite long, though. But one can enjoy great sea and mountain views. One recommendation is about the breakfast/dinner break at a gas station. Don't order anything fancy that will take too much time to finish.
