What To Expect
Begin with a morning pickup at your Kota Kinabalu hotel, then start the drive to Kota Belud, a trading hub for the northern part of Sabah. The tamu is part market, part community event, and you’ll have the chance to rub shoulders with locals as you explore the bustling aisles. Keep your eyes open, and you may catch a glimpse of the Bajau horseman, who use bright traditional costumes for both horse and rider, jingling with bells and elaborate swords.
Listen to vendors haggling over their wares, working to draw in passerby with bargain prices on fruits, vegetables, and leafy greens—this is the perfect place to learn about the raw ingredients in Sabah’s distinctive dishes. Don’t fill up on a heavy breakfast before this trip as you can snack your way around the market, purchasing treats from vendors and chefs. At the end of the time at the market, make the return trip to Kota Kinabalu, where this tour concludes with drop off at your hotel.
