We had an amazing time! Raul was a fantastic guide who educated us and entertained at the same time. Very knowledgeable and great sense of humor. Saw spider monkeys, a skunk, various birds, frogs, lizards, arachnids and of course the iconic red eyed frog. We saw two of them mating and Raul took amazing close-ups for us with each person’s phone. Would highly recommend this tour and the night walk experience as a whole!

We had a great time, the pond area was the best but we were able to see other wildlife throughout the trail. It was mostly reptiles, amphibians and some insects for us.

Stood still!

We were meant to meet at 17:30 the guides were late. They split everyone into two groups The other group finished the whole trail As our group spent 50 minutes talking about frogs and we didn’t even walk half of it, then then when the other group passed us we followed them and got told that was the end. It said it was 2 hours 30minutes I was back at the hotel by 19:10 The guide was informative but I felt very rushed and wasn’t shown the whole trial I’m sure there’s better company’s out there for a night tour

Hola Karl_H! Thanks a lot for the review, it is very important for us to have your feedback. Yes, we always ask all of our customers to be at the meeting point at 5:30 pm or if the customer needs transportation service we schedule the pickup time. Most of the cases we arrive to the pickup places and some customers are not ready and that affects all of the operation of the tour that's why sometimes we don't get there at the exact time. About hike is scheduled to start between 5:45 and 6 pm due to the amount of sun light, also it is important to mention that the tour itself takes from 1:45 min to 2 hours, why it says 2:30 hours? This is because the pickups and dropoff. If you can provide us more information about the tour we will really appreciate if you can write us by email info@wildlifetourscostarica.com so we can double check what happened that day and who was your tour guide. Great tour! The guides work hard to find the creatures of the night. We saw snakes, spiders, including a tarantula and many interesting species of frogs. The sounds of the forest at night are incredible. A must do tour!

Nice guide, not so many animals

Sometimes, simply being immersed in nature's beauty can be its own reward. Nature is completely unpredictable, since animals are in their natural habitat is really hard to guarantee that you will see a lot of them, although our team does their best to give you the best of the experiences. Guide was great but please change your policy of allowing very young kids the group tour

This was a little tough to review because my main displeasure with the night walk wasn't the tour itself but their policy of allowing young children to be on it. When we arrived at the meeting point we were told we would be split up into small groups of about 10 people each. Maybe it was pure luck or because I had my 9 and 12 year old kids with me but they paired us up with a couple who brought their ~1.5 year old (strapped in a carrier), ~5 year old and ~7 year old. Throughout the entire walk there was never a time that at least one of the kids wasn't yelling or complaining aloud which was distracting and made it difficult to hear the guide. The parents even admitted that they probably made a mistake in signing up for the walk. Maybe the company can restrict having really young kids join the group tour and push them to a private tour instead. The guide was highly knowledgeable and personable and if we didn't have the challenge stated above, I would have rated the walk a 4 out of 5 due to the limited number of things actually seen during the walk. Other notes: it gets very buggy from all the insects flying around. That may be a problem for some people and take away from their enjoyment.

Fun night hike

Loved walking around at night with our guide, Chris, and flashlights to work together and find what comes out at night. Saw all kinds of frogs, spiders, snakes, and insects. Kids thought it was fun finding the things camouflaged amongst the rainforest. Appreciated the transportation to and from. Would highly recommend.

Night life in the rainforest

Our guide Brandon was very knowledgeable on the animals in the area. He was a great guide! We were able to see lots of frogs, a few spiders, a couple headlamp beetles, and a snake and scorpion. The hike was more difficult as it was raining and the steps were uneven and slick. This tour was the least favorite for my kids (ages 7 & 11) due to the darkness. We all had flashlights but it was dark in the rainforest. I would recommend this tour but be aware it is dark and difficult if it is raining.

This tour was one of the highlights of our entire Costa Rica trip! Brandon, our guide, was super knowledgeable and helpful. We traveled with my two kids (ages 8 and 5) and he went out of his way to make sure they were included in the info shared and that we could find most of the animals they were looking for. We saw snakes, a sloth, spiders, and several different species of frogs and toads. The red eyed tree frogs were the best! Thank you so much, Brandon, for being so good to our family and to my kids!

Still Nice on a Rainy Evening

The pickup and drop off from and to the hotel was seemless and the guide was very nice. Unfortunately, it was raining the evening of the tour, so we didn't see a lot of animals. The red eyed tree frog was the highlight of the evening!

An amazing amount of wildlife that we would never of seen without a guide. Our guide Didiar (hope I’ve spelt that correctly) was very knowledge. We saw several snakes, frogs and a tarantula. It was an amazing evening.

Best night walk ever!

So thankful to have had such a knowledgable guide! The jungle is full of creepy crawlies that most definitely take a trained eye to see! We carefully toured a well-defined trail in the dark of night. Came across a Fer-de-lance, lots of frogs, and a few giant spiders! The guide is safe, careful, and respectful to nature. He also assisted in taking some amazing pictures of these creatures! Highly recommend, unless you're afraid of the dark ;)

Saw quite a few critters

We went on a rainy day. It wasn't a complete downpour but we did get fairly wet. Definitely pack the raincoat and a smaller umbrella (it's better for squeezing along the path). At the beginning we didn't see a whole lot of animals, so our guide told us about a lot of the trees and vegetation. We saw a glass frog, red-eyed tree frog, Fer de lance, an eyelash viper, lots of spiders, a bullfrog and other type of frog.

Frogs, fireflies, and kinkajous, oh my!

A must-do experience! The tour started with a walk around an outdoor area that had manmade ponds to attract lots of amphibians — we saw the red-eyed tree frog, glass frogs, toads, and lots of tadpoles and frog eggs. The open fields bordering the edge of the rainforest were also full of fireflies! A treat for us Pacific Northwesterners! The following hike was easy and we passed a couple of other tour groups, one of which had spotted an eyelash pit viper and pointed it out to us. At one point, I spotted eyes high up in the canopy — the guide focused his more powerful flashlight on them and we were treated to a playful show by some kinkajous! Our guide said he'd never seen them before. So definitely look up every so often and you might see something special. :)
