What To Expect

Make your own way to the Ljubljana Castle ticket office at a time of your choosing and hop on the funicular (if option selected) for a scenic ride to the top of Castle Hill.

On arrival, set out on a self-guided tour of the castle, starting by browsing the exhibitions and learning more about Slovenian history. Visit the Penitentiary, the Castle Chapel of St George, and the Pentagonal Tower, then stop by the Mini Theatre to watch a puppet show or browse the Rustika gallery of arts and crafts.

Be sure to take in the views from the Watchtower and stop for a coffee at the Castle Coffee House (own expense), before heading back down on the funicular.

Beautiful castle

I was confused about the ticket I bought. It said I had entrance to the castle and museums and the funicular down….but I was not aware that i could take the funicular UP! So I hiked up the hill to the castle. I suppose I should have checked before I took the hike - I learned that day. So my advice is to just check at the funicular station first to see if the ticket will work or not. Other than that, the castle is beautiful and the views are breathtaking….I highly recommend it. There is also a puppet museum, a cafe, and a wine bar.

Beautiful scenery throughout. Our tour guide Barbara was tops too. Thoroughly enjoyed it.. Loved it all but Vintagar Gorge and lake bohinj were truly magical

It’s an entrance ticket

This was just a ticket to get in to the castle and to ride the funicular. It served its purpose - I still had to wait in line to get my digital ticket converted to a paper ticket before I could enter. A read that a person can walk around the castle grounds without a ticket, but if you want to go in certain rooms and see certain exhibits, a ticket is needed.

Amazing history and views in Ljubljana Castle

The castle is visible from the entire city, so it's easy to get excited for this visit. We chose to ride the funicular up (which I recommend as it's a steep walk). Once inside, it's easy to navigate around, including climbing the tower. The views from the castle can't be beat and thus, this is a must-do activity while visiting Ljubljana.

Online ticket CANNOT be scanned by the entrance of yhe castle and cause confusion

The castle is worth a visit. The ticket is supposed to be online but it does not work when you scan at the entrance. The personnel was generally cool about it, but one guy did not want to let us leave and was rude about it, even though it was not our fault. This mismatch between what you sell and how it functions should be fixed, guys. And then it’s a good experience.

First to know: When you print your voucher btw it's not your ticket, simply go to the ticket booth for the funicular and exchange it there. I got the full ticket that gives you access to a roundtrip ride on the funicular and to the entirety of the castle and it's exhibits. I found in every turn their was something to see in this Castle and I found the audio guide + the placards by most of the displays gave tons of info about what Ljubljana Castle was in the past to the present. They've done an amazing job preserving this castle and it's beautiful inside and out and I recommend a visit inside.

Ho comprato due Biglietti tramite l’App, non era specificato che per accedere al castello ci volevano altri biglietti per la funivia, abbiamo fatto la fila e pagato 10€ in più del prezzo in biglietteria. TERRIBILE

Habíamos comprado la entrada a través de Viator, y en el voucher ponía que teníamos que recoger la entrada en recepción. Pues estuvimos más de 30 minutos esperando a que nos dejasen entrar ya que decían que la entrada no estaba pagada. La verdad es que la señora mayor nos trató bastante mal, pidiendo que le enseñásemos la entrada, como si quisiésemos colar. Entiendo que tiene que haber una seguridad y un orden pero podría haber actuado de otra manera.

Abbiamo preso la funicolare per salire, con audioguida facilissima da usare. Ti lasciano una mappa del.castello con dei numeri che bisogna cercare e a ogni numero corrisponde la storia delle rovine che guardi. In tutto il castello ci sono ristoranti e bar. Esperienza memorabile e d arrivare assolutamente. Quando entri nel castello ti sembra di respirare l'aria del medio evo. Tutto ben conservato e nn bastano 2 ore per visitare tutto. All'interno del castello c'è un museo dei burattini ,sei obbligato a visitarlo una volta iniziato il tour. Il castello di lubiana nasce come fortezza per addestrare i cavalieri, non è mai stata residenza per re e regine Lubiana è nel mio cuore.

Vista stupenda sulla piccola e graziosa Lubiana. Suggestiva la salita con la funicolare. Le sale interne del castello non sono un granché ma la vista dall’alto vale il prezzo del biglietto.
