        The actual headline experiences are fantastic. The secondary sites (vallodolid and lunch) could be much better..

        Chichen Itza is an amazing site. Our tour guide was knowledgeable and entertaining. He seamlessly switched between Spanish and English and taught us a little Mayan. The Cenote was also quite magical. The operation is very efficient and a little off putting but once you get into the actual cenote it is amazing. The buffet style lunch at the end was a hugely disappointing part of the trip. The food was ok. The cafeteria style eating area was weird and grossly instutional feeling. The desserts had not been kept at the right temperature, so the flan (which was grossly served in little plastic cups) was all runny. I wish they had skipped the lunch entirely so that we could have actually seen the sights promised in the materials at Vallodolid. While the nunnery was lovely that was really the only part of the city we got to see. Our tour was completely booked. Every seat on the twenty person bus was jam packed which made for a slightly uncomfortable two plus hours of driving.

        I highly ecommend this tour operator and guide The guide is Mayan and trilingual and easily switched from Spanish to English to make sure our mixed group understood everything. His English is clear and easy to understand and he explained the history and traditions from a place of deep understanding. The cenote is fairytale gorgeous! The buffet lunch is in a very nice restaurant. It had many options and everything was delicious. (Bring cash for a tip!) You will enjoy walking around Izamal as well. Try a marquesita in the square!
