Chaotic, not interesting and long
Marina_F, Nov 2023
This tour was chaotic, not as interesting as expected and with a lot of time spent waiting or driving. We arrived at the meeting point and had to wait 45 minutes to board the bus as our group had to wait for it to arrive. Then we spent around 2 hours driving because of the cities’ traffic. During the ride, one of the guides was explaining stuff but it got random very quickly and was annoying. At the beginning, the guide told us to bring warm clothes because it gets cold on the boat ride but what’s the point of saying that when everyone is there and not like a day earlier? At the cemetery, we were walking around in the group and individually but it felt uncomfortable watching the locals during their family festivities as if being animals in a zoo… after around an hour and a lot of waiting for group members we continued to Xochimilco. At Xochimilco, we felt like we were the only people there as it was already past 11pm. The guides brought us to buy drinks, to a weird place to take (group) photos and then we boarded the small boat. There, we got our pre-ordered food and drove around the canals but there was no kind of party spirit and the guides could not really animate the group, didn’t set up any music, were using social media etc. so that for the most of the time we were all sitting there staring at the dark canals. There was a group of Mariachis that joined us for the last 15 minutes. We arrived back in the centro historico at around 1:30am.
Avoid this tour

We read the bad reviews and decided to still go figuring maybe 2022 was the first year they ran this tour and had to work out some bugs. Nope..still the same bad issues. First off, except for being run on the day of the dead, there is no reason to call this a day of the dead tour. We visited a cemetery, but I could have done that without spending 90 mins in traffic. Like previous reviews, we were told be there at 545 and didn't leave until 715. We were loaded onto a double decker bus with an open roof. I asked the guide if we.coukd close the roof. He said, we needed to take a bite to see if there was 100% agreement! It was 50 degrees out!!! Fortunately his assistant didn't care about a vote and closed the roof. We went to the cemetery but because of traffic only had 30 mins to see the alters AND grab something to eat from the food vendors. We then went on the boat rides. I think there was an issue with the mariachi band because at one point we basically just sat int he water for about 15 mins before finally continuing on. To end the night, we got diverted going home.and ended up driving down a street that ended up at a street fair. No where then us could go. We were all stuck. So we all had to get off the bus and call Uber to get us home. Do yourself a favor. Don't book this tour. Just not worth it.
Safe and informative

The canal ride was very chill and chilly. It was a good opportunity to have fun and there were opportunities to buy food and drinks as well at both places. The tour said it included La Llorona as part of the tour but it was not in fact included.Faleadvetisement but looks like they may have updated it since then (by taking it off). I love seeing the panteones with the group and having the guides inform us and keep us safe. I’d say overall it’s a great tour but not worth the current price in my opinion. Too much for what it was.
The worst experience I’ve ever been charged for
Michelle_P, Nov 2023
Just don’t book this tour, it’s a terrible itinerary for a start and that’s before we get to all the other problems. I’d booked this tour as I stupidly thought it wouldn’t be as bad as the previous reviews. It’s worse. We were very late leaving even though there were a lot of staff at the pick up location. They’d split people into groups, we were the English speaking group. There was no bus available for us at this point, we were stood waiting an hour for it to arrive. No information about this, what so ever. They seemed more interested in constantly counting the number of people in the queue, I know we were there a while but we’d not started multiplying. Eventually a double decker bus arrived and we were counted onto it. The bus was an open top bus by day so the roof was still open, eventually they agreed to close the roof (it’s dark but this point and the temperature has dropped). The roof, however, had other ideas and kept springing open. It was a long 2 hour journey through traffic to the cemetery meaning we only had 40 minutes in the cemetery, annoying, because I’d argue that’s why most of us were there. You were given the opportunity to buy food from the stalls outside the cemetery but we didn’t as we wanted to make the most of our time there and so opted for food on the boat ride. Another mistake. I appreciate we were taken to this cemetery due to its size and the amount of people on the tour (about 5 bus loads) but it wasn’t very intimate. Some graves we tombs and quite large. The smaller ones were behind these and it was difficult to know where the small paths were in the dark. The last thing you want to do is trample along someone’s grave because you can’t quite make out the path. The guide spent a bit of time telling us things I’d argue we already knew about day of the dead, why else would you have booked the tour? And I felt he could have said it on the bus instead of giving us a tour of the city, personally I don’t care how big the university is or about the life and times of Frida Kahlo. We then left for Xochimilco which wasn’t far from the cemetery. This is the most pointless thing to do in the dark. We were out into brightly colour boats and sailed down one of the canals. You couldn’t see the scenery due to it being dark. You passed other boats and the odd building and polytunnel on the shore. It was like sailing round a garden centre. There were people in smaller boats constantly yelling at you to buy beer, even if you had one, or a headband. We came to the boat selling the food and had pre ordered the quesadillas. They were greasy and tasted of nothing, don’t waste your money. We had five minutes maximum of a mariachi band on our boat as we passed them, this was quite good. After an hour of sailing round in the dark and cold with nothing much to see we were back on dry land and in the bus, optimistic that the traffic would be better so it’d be a smoother journey back. How wrong was I?! The bus took a route down a street that was blocked by food stalls and couldn’t reverse back due to the traffic that has followed. The male guide just disappeared at this point, a few of us had stayed on the bus but weren’t told anything and couldn’t see the guide. I got off and found Pamela the female guide telling people they were going to fix the situation. Most people got off and got Ubers as there wasn’t a solution to the situation forthcoming. We tried for an Uber as we were freezing cold, tired and had headaches but the wait was too long. We ended up going back to the bus. We were then dropped off ten minutes walk away from our pick up point. Why on earth would you have a completely different drop off location?! It took us 25 minutes to walk to our hotel at 2am. We were absolutely freezing and exhausted by the time we got in. Today I’ve woken up with a cold and a headache, ruining day of the dead for me. This trip has cost me thousands of pounds to be here for day of the dead! All in all Pamela, the female guide tried her best throughout the night to make the night good for people and she stayed present unlike the male guide who kept disappearing. At the end drop off point he practically ran away when he got off the bus. No apology, no instructions on who to complain to, no offer of help or consideration. I appreciate things go wrong but it’s how you deal with them when they do and our guide didn’t have a clue and didn’t want to even try.

Dear Michelle, We are very sorry that the experience was not satisfactory and that it seemed disorganized due to so many passengers. We did our best to provide good service, but we will certainly take your comments into account so that next year the tour is 5 stars. Mariana, Amigo tours
Disappointing and unsafe !!
Imelda_R, Nov 2023
Tour started 1 hour late , Gabe is a double decker bus cold plastic seats for a 2 hour ride took longer because the double decker could. It travel the original route. Main guide was not informative very fague. Never offered a bathroom for a long ride 2 guests got off mid trip due to no bathroom. When we asked for approximate time for things was never accurate. Last he made the bus take a local neighborhood road we could not pass due to food vendors and bus could. Not back up . Everyone got off the bus had to fend for ourselves and Uber back to hotel . No help or information given he could of cared less what happen to us all ! We all got off the bus and I had to wait for 3 Ubers due to everyone requesting rides an hour away from our hotel . So disappointed did not feel safe left out to handle it ourselves not cool at all.
Response from Host, Nov 2023
Dear Imelda, thank you for your review. We would like to apologize for the inconvenience caused, we will investigate what happened with this visit and take the necessary measures to avoid these problems. Kind Regards from Amigo Tours.
Logistical Nightmare
Kelsey_T, Nov 2022
This was a very poorly organized tour. The idea was good, the locations we visited were great, but the planning and execution was abysmal. We were over an hour late leaving because the company didn't properly plan the buses for the large volume of people on the tour (for reference it appeared that there were 8 charter busses full of people on this same tour). The issue never seemed to get rectified so we were ended up on a Spanish and English tour. Our English guide was nice, but not a fluent speaker and it was painfully apparent that the English tour got a fraction of the information the Spanish tour got. Well over 50% of our time was stuck on the bus in traffic - I understand that traffic is an issue in Mexico City (especially on holidays) but that time could be used to show us a video about Día de Muertos or plan another form of entertainment instead of having so much dead time. The cemetery visit was lovely, but we got minimal information and then we were told to wander around for an hour. I was hoping for a more guided experience and to learn more about the history and culture of the holiday. When we got to Xochimilco, we wanted another hour or so for the trajinera ride. Once we finally got on the boats it felt like every man for himself - there were too many people to have a guide per boat so we were on our own. The trajinera experience is fun, but we were so late getting started just navigating out of all the parked boats at the dock was a long, involved, bumpy process. The mariachi show was nice, the musicians were great, but we didn't make it to "La Llorona" (I'm guessing because we were so late to everything). At one point some of the people on our tour literally jumped ship and got a car rather that completing the tour. I think this tour has the potential to be great, but what I and my travel companions experienced was a disappointing, logistical mess.

Not worth it for what you are being charge
NANCY_M, Nov 2022
It's too expensive for what you get. The tour guy did not explain much. We got pick up from a point of meeting. But then when tour is done , you get drop off far away from your hotel. So were is our safety . No food. Or drinks are included . Not worth it. You are better off doing xochimilco in cancun for your money worth .
Response from Host, Nov 2022
Dear NANCY_M, we are sorry to hear that the experience did not meet your expectations, unfortunately, in response to your comments about the drop-off, we would like to highlight the fact that on the Viator page it is explained that the tour is managed with meeting points, in the same way as the drop-off, the same for food and beverages, this is not included and it is described on the review of the tour. Thank you for sharing your experience, have a great day! Ivana, Amigo Tours

I wouldn’t do it again
Elerth_A, Nov 2022
Started an hour later than scheduled, it seemed that they didn’t have enough staff to organize people and get them into the correct buses. Long drive to the cemetery, which was legitimately cool, but then the boat ride was long and not very exciting. Couple of entertainers who were talented but mostly just a very slow ride with not much to do. Not a terrible time, but it was a lot of time and money, with only the cemetery was really memorable (and that could have been done without the tour) . Plus the late start was quite annoying to me.
Response from Host, Nov 2022
Dear Elerth_A, we are very sorry to hear the tour did not meet your expectations, we will share your review with the proper area so they can improve this detail you mentioned before, thank you for sharing them, and have a great day! Ivana, Amigo Tours
Horrible
Claire_B, Nov 2022
Horrible! Why tell us to show up 15 minutes early when we have to wait an hour and a half to depart. very disorganized. Lots of waiting around. Microphone that doesn’t work. Could not hear anything in the back of the bus. Toilet was backed up within a few uses. We ended up spending an extra $25 to take an Uber home so we don’t have to sit in the bus with the toilet that smelled so bad.
Response from Host, Nov 2022
Dear Claire_B, we are really sorry to hear you had a bad experience, we will share your review with management to let them know and they make improvements, we loved to have you though! Ivana, Amigo Tours
Too crowded, more waiting/transporting than enjoying
rebecca_h, Nov 2022
Over 400 participants, very unorganized bus transport where we waited over 45 mins in line to board the bus. We insisted on being in the English speaking tours, but was forced to join a mainly Spanish speaking group making it very difficult to enjoy. Guides did their very best with the complicated logistics but the group of family/kids/couples kept to themselves and was not the fun party vibe that we were looking for. If you’re going to go, go with a large group of your friends or make sure you land with guides who can rally the group.
Response from Host, Nov 2022
Dear rebecca_h, we are really sorry to know you had a bad experience, unfortunately, since this is an iconic holiday here in México, it is in fact very crowded, we extend a sincere apology for the long waiting, we will share your review with México´s city management so they can make improvements. Have a great day! Ivana, Amigo Tours
Amigo tours is great but skip this one
Harlon_F, Nov 2022
Amigo tours is great with the pyramids but unfortunately this tour I cannot recommend to anyone in good conscience. It was very disorganized. We spent about 4 hours total of just waiting and standing around during the whole night. I wish I just got an Uber to the cemetery because that was the best part.
Response from Host, Nov 2022
Dear Harlon_F, we are really sorry to hear you did not enjoy the tour, thank you for sharing your experience, we will share your review with México´s city management so they can make improvements. Have a great day! Ivana, Amigo Tours
Waste of time
Jenn_B, Nov 2022
This was hands down the worst tour I have ever taken in my life. The tour said that it would start at 6pm. We arrived at the designated meeting point 15 minutes before, as requested. Our tour did not start until 7:08 pm. We drove 2 hour to a graveyard, not the one listed in the description. We spent 40 minutes at the graveyard. We arrived at the 2nd location around ten o’clock. When we asked the tour guide bout the rest of the itinerary we were told we had about her five hours.
Response from Host, Nov 2022
Dear Jenn_B, we are very sorry to read you had a bad experience, unfortunately, since this day is a holiday here in México, is high season, and we had hundreds of reservations that day so indeed we needed time to organize all people, we offer you a sincere apology for making you wait that long, anyways we loved to have on tour with us. Have a great day! Ivana, Amigo Tours
