What To Expect

Meet for this Newport small-group food and history walking tour at “The Wave” sculpture. This tour provides a great introduction to Rhode Island’s Aquidneck Island city mixing sights, history, and delicious food into one experience.

Once you greet your guide and small group limited to just 10, set off through the city learning about the history of the area, including fun tidbits you wouldn’t necessarily hear if exploring on your own. Plus, this tour keeps you active by covering a 1.5-mile (2.4 kilometer) route.

See sights such as the Brown and Howard Wharf, the Elms Mansion, and Samuel Whitehorne House, while also stopping at eateries such as Wally's Wieners, Vieste, and Cold Fusion Gelato to taste some yummy food samples of the area.

This tour is a cute attempt at a walking history & food tour, but it falls short. The tours are led by a retired couple with a new hobby. We were on the tour with the gentleman. Though informative, we felt like the tour lacked authenticity & fun. The history we learned was fine, but the delivery was a bit stiff. Also, the food was not impressive. We had a smashed burger, a bland shrimp taco & a caprese skewer. Though these restaurants are local, they do not represent the local cuisine. We took the tour expecting traditional food from Rhode Island such a chowder, lobster roll, seafood, maybe a locally brewed beer. There was none of that. I would not take this tour again.

Dear Claudia, Our tour represents "off the beaten path" representing 4 centuries of history in Newport and our fabulous local restaurants. The food, the presentation and service as well as the history stops in between restaurants has been well received by thousands of guests over the past 7 years that we have been in business. We offer very little seafood on our tour due to the overwhelming number of people with server seafood allergies, however, we do offer local beer which is offered at our last restaurant, O'Brien's Pub. Perhaps a food tour may not be right for you as you were looking for oysters, lobster and chowder, all available at restaurants around the wharves.

Pricey for only 4 stops :: a hotdog or hamburger, soft serve ice cream and 2 others. Too much like a history tour of town more then a food tour. Tour guide was informative abt the city and history - really shouldn’t be called a food walk tour

Thoroughly enjoyed this foodie stroll! I would have easily overlooked each of our food stops since they aren’t on along the main Thames st area. I also enjoyed hearing about Newports history. Walking wasn’t excessively strenuous and I thought we had ample time to finish our tastings at each stop too. (My favorite was Vieste!) 10/10 recommend, thank you Tom!
