Road to Escondido

Our driver was good, always felt safe even considering the style of Mexican driving is kind of like Formula 1 when it comes to passing other vehicles. Not really any English and did not offer any Spotify use or even air conditioning adjustment when asked. I put that down to communication. Also, the new highway to PE had just opened and from pickup to drop off the trip was 2 1/2 hours. We booked about a month previously and paid about $540 CDN accepting it was a 6 hour drive. I see the price has been reduced by just over $100 CDN, probably to reflect competition for the shorter trip. All in all, we arrived safely and relatively comfortable. The convenience of being picked up at your Hotel and dropped off at your destination is worth something. Tipped the driver 200 Pesos as he did get us to our destination safely in a comfortable car in good condition. Just felt a little burned on the price for a 6 hour trip when it actually took 2 1/2 hours, but that’s what we signed up for and we made it to PE.

It was a much better experience than taking the bus. Saved a huge amount of time, vehicle was clean, the tires however were completely bald, we didn’t find this out until we got a flat tire 2 hours into our 6.5 hour drive… we made it safely but that was a concern as we had to change the tire on the side of the VERY curvy road that’s when we realized all the tires were bald, the flat tire didn’t come from a nail legitimately the tire wore down so much it wouldn’t stay inflated. Highly suggest gravol for this drive as well that road is very curvy and you will most likely get car sick. 3+ hours straight of curvy. Door to door service was awesome. Would use the service again for sure but tires need to be checked

If your driver gives you the option of taking the ‘new highway’ I recommend you decline. We agreed to this and regretted the decision. The new road will be great when complete, but as of Dec 2023 it is not ready, drivers should not be using it.

We booked a transfer from Oaxaca city to Puerto Escondido that said it was a jungle road with a stop for lunch. Our driver asked us if we wanted to go on the route we booked, which takes 6 hours or another way that he said would take 3. I knew the Highway was unfinished and told him we did not think it was a good idea. He insisted because he said we would get car sick on the route we had booked. The highway is not finished! It is partially finished in spots but mostly not finished. It was a dirt road that stopped part way through. They were still bulldozing the road! We had to turn around and go down a extremely curvy jungle trail that wasn’t even a road. There was no bathrooms or lunch along this way. We didn’t stop from Oaxaca to Puerto Escondido. If you book this transfer do not take the new route! It is still unfinished! The transfer we took was not the one advertised. It still took 4.5 hours and was a very unpleasant trip.

We had a very good drive from Oaxaca to Puerto Escondido in about 6h30 including some stops for coffee, stretching legs and to go to the bathroom. Our driver Oscar was very courteous and very agile on the curvy roads. The car was a VW Caddy and was really comfortable. We are very happy to have chosen the private drive over the minibus colectivo and would certainly repeat at a next occasion.

Great service, highly recommend - roomy car for two people (with possibility of an extra person in the passenger seat). Lovely driver who stopped half way at a place with an amazing view and restaurant. The roads from Oaxaca city to Puerto are very windy so being in a car was much more preferable to a bus. It is the more expensive option but well worth it for a door to door quicker service.

There was a small delay in pick-up but apart from that the drive was mostly enjoyable. It does take quite a long time, and is very curvy but you see beautiful Mountain View’s. We also stopped for a nice lunch. The car was also in good shape and very spacious, which was nice. The driver spoke good English.

Working with Viator was super easy. Good and fast communication. Our driver, Laurent, was an efficient and skillful driver. We made it from Oaxaca city to Puerto Escondido in about 7 hours with one stop about halfway for an early lunch. Definitely have dramamine. It's about 3 1/2 hours of hairpin curves.
