What To Expect

Meet your guide in Piazza Verdi, near the iconic Teatro Massimo opera house. It’s the largest in Italy, and was in a pivotal scene in The Godfather: Part III. Get your Palermo ‘foodie’s passport,’ which you’ll get stamped at every tasting point along the tour.

Street food is cooked and served at street stalls, modest bakeries and old bars. This street food tour has been designed to show Palermo with no filters of any kind.

Begin making your way to the Vucciria Market and Mercato di Capo, two busy and colorful outdoor markets in Palermo. Listen as your guide offers insights into how Sicily’s unique culinary history informs its street food scene while vendors of local produce and seafood promote their goods. The Church of the Immaculate Conception is nearby, which you can visit if you like (own expense).

Get in line at neighborhood bakeries, cafes and street food stalls to try a variety of famous Sicilian street snacks. Munch on chickpea fritters called panelle and deep-fried balls of rice stuffed with meat, vegetables and cheese called arancine as you collect stamps in your foodie passport.

Sip on a sweet Sicilian wine to wash down your fried treats, and then head for a seasonal dessert. You may indulge in Sicily’s famous cannoli (deep-fried pastry cylinders filled with sweetened ricotta cheese), some gelato or a refreshing granita (a fruity slushy).

    We had the most incredible experience with our guide Federico. She was so passionate about her delicious food and shared history and personal stories of the incredible street food.     Our guide, Alessandra, was a hoot. As many of the food vendors at the markets have little or no English, having a guide made the intro to street food much smoother than doing it on our own.. And now I can say I ate lamb intestines and fried spleen.

    If you are someone who has just arrived in Palermo with no prior walking around and no kids this tour would be good. We did this at the end of our Sicily trip after being in Palermo for a few days and found it ok but not amazing like some others. The food was good, we got to eat some unique things which was great, and learnt some interesting things - but overall I’m giving it a 4 star as our guide literally spoke all the time (which become very tiresome) didn’t adjust for the three kids on the tour (or even ask if there were alternative for them to eat) and took us to super dooper busy places where it was hard to concentrate. So a good tour if you are first timers, like talking and super business, but not as good as others we have done.

    When me and my wife arrived in Palermo we were really upset about the horrible weather (super rainy and windy) and we didn't even feel like doing the tour.
