Mainor our guide was incredible. So kind and knowledgeable. - Pickup from the hotel was seamless - The drive to the coffee and chocolate plantation was about 2 hours. -The experience at the plantation was fantastic. The views are breathtaking, and the staff is incredibly experienced and kind. We were able to taste the coffee and chocolate from the pods. - After we took a 10 minute drive to the nature reserve. Both Mainor and our guide Steve were incredibly helpful when pointing our flora and fauna. Most notably we spotted 7 sloths, and two toucans! - Afterwards we went next door and got lunch. Highly recommend choosing the authentic Costa Rican meal! - The drive back is the same two hour drive, with a stop for bathrooms, souvenirs, and or convenience store items. Would highly recommend this to anyone looking to experience a slice of local culture!

    Lovely tour

The coffee/chocolate demonstration was informative. The sloth tour was fun! The guide was very knowledgeable and we also got to see other animals. Lunch (a delicious traditional meal) was at a local place. The overall tour service was wonderful.
    Worth the drive

    A great mix of things!

My trip was in early Jan of 2024. My group's tour guide was Alberto. He did a fantastic job bringing us around to both the location of the chocolate and coffee tour as well as to the sanctuary. It wasn't a situation where they bring the sloths down and let you see them up close, you're seeing them closer to their natural state. But the sanctuary volunteer who brought us around was fantastic and would even offer to take our phones and try to capture a photo of the sloth closer up using his binoculars.

Comfortable and picturesque drive into the rain forest. Tour guides gave great information on route about Costa Rican human and natural geography. (We had 2 guides, one who picked us up from the hotel and the other who took us from a meeting point with another family group into the rain forest) The sloths, frog and snake tour was decent and the family loved it. Don’t worry about the posts about the animals being planted. If they weren’t you’d be in the middle of the rain forest in the middle of the night and most likely seconds away from death. The lunch was excellent and in the same location as the coffee/ chocolate lesson. This was great fun and we learnt a lot of interesting facts and got to help make the delicious and natural tasting choc and coffee drinks to sample. Great tour and lovey hosts.

This was very educational and interesting. We went from the dry, arid Guanacoste coast up to an area near Tenorio Volcano and rain forest, stopping along the way at a fruit stand to sample fresh pineapple, watermelon and coconut water. Then to the coffee plantation, with a very informative talk, before getting to the reserve with the red-eyed frogs, sloths, two vipers and lots of beautiful foliage. The guide was friendly and patient. We loved the tour.

Long ride to the rain forest from Guanacaste but well worth it. The weather is very different, more humid and will most likely rain a bit. The tour host was knowledgeable and friendly. We enjoyed every stop.

Mainor was such an incredible guide to have all day long! He continued to give us local insights and made everything so fun! The chocolate/coffee tour was a blast and we truly loved learning from our guides and the hospitality was incredible. The sloths were unbelievable and Diego was beyond helpful in showing us all the local critters! From snakes to frogs to birds and so much more, we loved seeing wildlife we had never seen before! Lunch was right next door and so yummy! The best local food plus a cute little botanical garden outside as well. Overall, the trip is about 2 hours there and 2 hours back depending on traffic and if your crew wants to stop along the way! I suggest bringing a water bottle and comfy clothes/shoes!

Events were nice but trip was terrible
    SarahElizabeth_M, Mar 2024
The tour of the sanctuary was nice. We saw a baby sloth up close! The food at the restaurant next door was great. The coffee and chocolate demonstration was good. But the trip there was not fun. The listing says that it is a 1-hour drive; this is probably from Liberia. From our pick-up spot in Guanacaste, it was >2.5 hours drive. The van they picked us up in was old and the air conditioning did not work. Our driver even stopped at a pharmacy on the way back because he felt that his blood pressure was too high because he was feeling dizzy. I think it was the heat. Would not recommend this tour unless you are closer to the sanctuary and don't need to suffer through the trip.

Thank you very much for letting me know about this situation. I will follow up on what happened to you to improve, in terms of time, so I can't do anything because from Tamarindo Beach to any activity it takes at least 2:00, but thank you very much for your feedback.

    It was a very nice...
    Madyson_S, Feb 2024
It was a very nice experience, the coffee and chocolate tour was cool and informative but it seemed very rushed, would have loved more time. The guide literally stopped a stop watch at the end. I would still recommend it to a friend though. The sloth and frog part was fun but it felt very staged but it was really cool to get up close and personal with the animals.

    Short but great trip
    Gerald_D, Feb 2024
The trip lasted about 6 1/2 hrs. Travel time 1 3/4 hrs both directions baring traffic. Two separate visits- one the a sloth and frog habitat. Saw plenty of animals including snakes. Guide was excellent. Near by included a coffee and chocolate planatation. Good walk with a guide and demonstations on production. Coffee and chocolate costs a little more expensive than outside at a rest stop. Van driver was excellent. Lunch was excellent. Not the usual tourist stuff. Hotel did not sell this trip as another couple wished to take it.

This was a fantastic day! We saw so many animals in the rainforest and our guide helped us take amazing pictures. The traditional lunch was delicious The coffee and chocolate activities were very hands-on. You can tell they take pride in their quality. Rosbin and his men were so friendly and Mainor our driver was awesome, so accommodating. He explained the Costa Rica history and lifestyle in a very engaging way. Thank you so much for a great experience!

    Don't waste your money
    Pam_H, Jan 2024
Tour description said it would last from 7:30AM-1:30PM, when we were underway, the driver/guide, Alberto, said we would be driving for the next 2 1/2 hours. We ended up returning to Tamarindo at 5:30PM. That was the first clue that this tour may not live up to our expectations. The van was full, rows were tight together and uncomfortable. After a brief stop for rest break & souvenirs we arrived at the "sloth sanctuary" - what a joke. One frog and one snake were clearly "planted" in the "rain forest". We were able to see a few sloths, the baby sloth was in a lower branch and easy to see. Alberto shook the branches so we could see the baby sloth move (not exactly a naturalist move). It rained the entire time at the sanctuary - the tour description had no mention of rain or suggestion to bring an umbrella or rain pancho. The sanctuary conveniently had panchos for sale (I'm guessing the tour operator took a cut in the sales). At least they only cost $3. Tour description said bottled water would be provided - when asked about it, Alberto said his manager "forgot" to pack the water but he could stop so we could purchase drinks, if needed. On a positive note, lunch was delicious and the coffee/chocolate tour was fantastic - very informative/entertaining. Coffee tour staff was terrific and highly recommended. Overall, this tour is NOT worth the high price and I don't recommend Seven Sense as a tour operator - don't waste your money.

Thank you for your comment, everyone is welcome, the bus you are on that day has 15 passengers and only 10 people were there, so there was good space, speaking of where you were staying, the problem with Tamarindo is that it is a destination very popular, for surfing and night parties places for souvenir shopping, bars and catamarans but the bad thing is that most people do not realize that more than 90% of the activities are more than 2:30 hours from Tamarindo, Regarding the weather and how many animals can be seen, unfortunately I do not have control of the weather or the wildlife because the place where we are going is not an animal sanctuary, it is a natural biological corridor, and if it rained that day the guide told me and Just like us, when it rains, most animals seek shelter from the rain, that's why it's called rainforest. As for whether I receive a commission from what they sell there, no, that's a place that, like my company, visits to make the rainforests tour, with at least 30 more tour operators arriving and if I can respond 100% to the restaurant and cafeteria where you had lunch that you liked, of which I am a co-owner and just like the coffee and chocolate thing too. In fact, I attended to them personally with one of my partners and a collaborator, we will take their complaints into account, but with the weather and the wild animals I cannot help you because we have no control over them. Sincerely, Rosbin, owner of sevensensecostarica, important note to the rest of people strangely love the activity.
    Worthwhile tour for learning

Learning about coffee and chocolate production. Also, seeing several sloths. We had several guides; they were good at explaining everything. And our driver was good and let us all go at our own pace. He was in no hurry.

    Amazing tour! Highly recommend!
    Tu_M, Jan 2024
This was hands down the best tour to see sloths (we went on couple other tours and most of the time the sloths were way up high on the trees, and we were able to see a few that were so closed to us during this tour); not to mention the lady who was our tour guide on this tour spoke English very well and very enthusiastic about what she did). And all of us (2 adults and 3 young kids) had so much fun at the chocolate/coffee tour. It was our first time tasting the cocoa fruit and it was soooo good! Would 100% recommend this tour to anyone in the area.
