Fantastic day in the Mountains of Ecuador

Horseback riding was wonderful and the mountain scenery was amazing. While the weather was changeable, we had a great time and also learned a lot of history about the region.

The combination of the horse trekking close to Cotopaxi plus the substantial hike to Jose Rivas Refuge at almost 16,000 ft made this a unique fulfilling tour.Our guide Pato is brilliant professional guide very knowledgeable helpful and arranged a super lunch stop at the end of the super activity .

First of all, the guide Kathy was awesome. She is super knowledgeable, friendly, on time and takes lots of pictures. I hadn’t been horseback riding or hiking in many years. I was worried I wasn’t going to make it due to previous knee issues. She was more than patient with me and as a wonderful guide does, she guided me through it all. Horseback riding through the park was an incredible experience not to mention actually making it to the refuge at almost 16k ft of elevation. This was my favorite and most memorable day around Quito and it wasn’t even close. This one is not to be missed.

One-of-a-Kind Experience in Quito

Wow what an amazing experience from start to finish. I was just expecting to ride horses and see Cotopaxi, but gained so much more. Kathy was super knowledgeable and I learned so much about Ecuador, it’s landscapes and biodiversity through this trip. Horseback riding around the park was such a surreal experience. It was my first time riding, but I felt so comfortable with the help of Kathy, as well as Dario who led the horseback riding. The hike up Cotopaxi was super challenging, even after being in Quito for a few days, the altitude was a lot. But Kathy was super patient with any breaks I needed during the ascent. I also appreciated that she provided 2 options for the hike, one shorter but more challenging and another that was longer but less strenuous. The lunch was also delicious and it was great to enjoy some of the traditional foods of the country. There was also a fun surprise at the end of the lunch, which I won’t mention here, but just know it helped make this truly a one of a kind experience. So grateful to have found this experience and to have had such a wonderful guide lead it. Kathy is the best! This is a must do for anyone visiting Quito :)

Great Tour for Solo Travelers

As a solo traveler, it can be hard to find tours that are affordable. This tour was a great deal for what you got. My amazing tour guide, Kathy, picked me up at my hotel and we hiked to the refugio of Cotopaxi. I liked having a female guide as a female solo traveler! Kathy did a great job introducing me to the history and nature of Cotopaxi. After we had a quick hot chocolate at the refugio, we made our way to the stables. I got a safety briefing, a helmet, and we were off! Kathy took great pictures for me and even let me gallop with the horseback tour guides! We got a delicious lunch after and then made it back to Quito. If you want an affordable, all encompassing tour of Cotopaxi with an amazing guide, do this tour!!!

Horse riding volcano climbing lake side amazement

It’s hard to say what I loved most, but starting my day off with two amazing people my guide and driver Edgar and Marciel we had great conversations and drove into the park. With a massive sight of Cotopaxi and beginning the tour with a beautiful horse ride in the park. Galloping through was exhilarating I haven’t done this in so long. And then taking the drive and preparing for the hike up Cotopaxi and it’s crazy altitude wow!! My guide was so amazing helping me through and my driver was so delightful and made me feel safe. Thank you guys for everything I will never forget this trip.

Beautiful view while horseback riding

The guide was too talkative, which bothered me. There were some points at which I really just wanted to relax in silence while he drove. He also texted a bit while he was driving, which felt unsafe. We didn’t get lucky with the weather, so there wasn’t much of a view from the hike. That said, horseback riding in the shadow of Cotopaxi was a very cool experience. The food at the refuge was also very good: I recommend the locro de papa, even though it costs extra (not included in the tour).

Well, As tour Guides we always try to give as much as possible of information while we drive or visit a place. When we go back home, we usually take a time in silence that clients can relax a bit or take a nap. Anyway, We will try to put more attention while we are sharing some information in the way. Weather in the Andes Mountains is unpredictable and this time is so cloudy. Good vibes make a Big different in a trip. Jossua is a good Guide and a good driver too. We usually don't use phones while we drive if It is not neccesary. Your are right, Locro de papa is the best in the Refuge at 4864m almost 16000ft. and It doesn't include in our tour because we have arranged our delicious lunch in el Rondador restaurant that is a great spot for feeding people and Llamas too. The whole tour was magnificent. Kathy was a wonderful tour guide and was very knowledgeable about the area. The views were breathtaking. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Quito! I would recommend that you have very warm clothing (hats, gloves, etc.) as well as possibly taking a few days to get used to the elevation before this tour.

Incredible trip, one of the best experiences j have had. Jossua was very knowledgeable and beyond friendly. Very acomondating! The trek was tough but so worth it for the great food and tea at the top. The stop for lunch was the best food I have had in Ecuador. Could not recommend more!

Horses, Fox, and Llams, oh my!

We had a mist amazing day with Kathy on this tour. She was extremely knowledgeable, she was very flexible when we needed to make stops. The day was just wonderful. After our scenic and fun horseback ride, We ran into rain and then snow on Cotopaxi…a fox even came up to our car at the Volcano summit during the snowstorm! with the weather we agreed not to hike but then she surprised us with our lunch stop where we were able to go outside and feed Llamas which was just delightful. I would highly recommend this tour and Kathy!
