This was, by far, the highlight of our trip! Roatan Ocean Adventures gave us an excellent experience...one we will never forget!
From the start, Ann, our driver, was wonderful! She was waiting to pick us up just outside the port. The vehicle we rode in was very comfortable and clean! We were the only ones being picked up, also! As we drove to the kayak/snorkel location (not far...maybe 10 minutes), she told us things about Roatan.
When we arrived, we were greeted by the owner and other friendly staff. It wasn't chaotic with a ton of people there...just us at that time. We were fitted for our snorkeling flippers, asked some questions about our kayaking/snorkeling knowledge/experience, and were able to use clean, dry restroom facilities to change clothes. We left our belongings safely locked in the vehicle, and headed out in the kayak with our private tour guide, Justin Guzman!
Justin was the best!!! He was friendly, funny, and very knowledgable and informative about the mangroves, and all the different places/things we were passing as we kayaked. We spent about half the time kayaking around French Harbour, and the other half snorkeling the reef. We brought our little Fujifilm waterproof camera, and Justin offered to take our picture as we were in different spots kayaking and snorkeling - which was great, and much appreciated (no one likes just selfies to document trips like this)!!! He had a small ice chest full of cold bottled water, which he offered to us many times throughout the day. When it was time to snorkel, he tied our kayaks to a buoy, we slipped our gear on, then hopped into the clear, refreshing water (in a spot where we could touch the bottom)! The water was absolutely beautiful! Justin showed us the hiding lobster that were all over, tons of different fish and vegetation, conch, sea urchins, and so much more! We even saw a barracuda that was about 3' long! The aquatic life was incredible! When we were done snorkeling, we hopped back into the kayaks to head back (which was not very far), passing a few more cool things along the way (ask about Gurú)!!
Ann offered to stop for lunch on the way back to the port, which we opted to do - and so glad we did! She brought us to a small, local restaurant on the water where we thoroughly enjoyed a delicious meal, a beautiful view, and nice conversation. We never felt rushed, and made it back to the port in plenty of time...even had time for some shopping!
The value of this experience was well worth the price! Everyone we encountered was friendly, helpful, and informative! I would highly recommend this excursion if you are planning to visit Roatan!
