Hear stories and legends passed down over generations, learn about Maori settlement in Rotorua, and gain insight into this thriving culture as you observe master woodcarvers and artisans trained in the intricate art of weaving flax.
At the nocturnal kiwi house, catch a rare sight of this unusual flightless bird — New Zealand's national emblem.
Then walk past the bubbling mud pools and steaming springs of the Whakarewarewa Thermal Valley, and don’t miss the 100-foot (30-meter) Pohutu Geyser, which erupts up to 20 times a day.

Excellent facilities at Te Puia. The guide was great, providing an interesting overview of the attraction and fealing well with questions. We got what we paid for...mud pools, the geyser blowing off, sigh of a kiwi, and cultural background.

Tour guide Louise was awesome. The van ride was bit of a challenge due to it being 4 hours going and returning. The in-between was an experience everyone should do. I enjoyed hearing about the Maori culture and seeing the haka dance. The hot springs were wonderful and seeing an actual geyser erupt. The hot mud pools were a sight to see. I will never forget the smell of sulfur everywhere. I enjoyed visiting the Maori craft institute and shopping at the Te Puia store.

My worst day in New Zealand. I felt as the place was a rip-off. I went to a cultural performance before and here in Te Puia I didn't feel the energy. The whole place was overcrowded. Te Puia isn't authentic and the history was missing. Interesting were the woodcarving and weaving demonstration, the guided walk and the geothermal valley. I am sure there are better Maori cultural experiences around Rotorua.

We loved the Cultural performance in particular. make sure you do the Combo, not just a visit to the mud pools and geysers which are also interesting. We also got a good look at the kiwi.

The park was a bit Disney like with the geysers and mud pools fenced in and paved walkways. We did the free 1 tour that includes the carving and weaving schools which was worth doing. The show was enjoyable but maybe 300 people in the room. Get seats on the end of the row or at the front to take good pictures.

The Maori presentation was so interesting. We loved the songs performed and we were excited to see the Haka and the poi ball dance.
Our guide was very knowledgeable and friendly - we were able to see the geyser, the hot mud pools, the weaving school, the carving school and the kiwi birds. Such a fascinating area!
