What To Expect

After being picked up from your central Salta hotel, meet your guide and small group of no more than 15 people, and set off south along Route 68. Keep your camera close to hand as you wind your way through the wild landscapes of the Lerma Valley, along the Río de las Conchas, and into the heart of the Quebrada de las Conchas canyon.

Jump out to admire some of the reservation’s most memorable landmarks, including the imposing Garganta del Diablo (Devil’s Throat) and the aptly nicknamed Anfiteatro (Amphitheater), as your guide explains the region’s unique geology, sculpted over millions of years. Continue to La Punilla, where the unusual rock formations offer ample photo opportunities, and Los Castillos (The Castles), where the striking red rocks are reminiscent of a castle.

Arrive in Cafayate, where you’ll have time to enjoy lunch (own expense) and explore the town, before visiting some of the region’s wineries. Depending on the day, visit one or more of Cafayate’s wineries, and get chance to taste Argentina’s famous Torrontes wine, an aromatic white wine.

After a full day exploring the region’s impressive landscapes, return to Salta, where your tour ends with drop-off at your hotel.

So well worth it! Sergio was an excellent tour guide...very thorough information and such a fun guy. Guillermo (the driver) and Bruno (the translator), very courteous and professional. A great team! The sites visited were perfect! The timing of each stop very well coordinated...short stops but enough time to appreciate and take pictures. Got a lot in for a one day tour....we are very satisfied and would recommend. Not only that...we wold definitely use Nordic Tours again! Thank you for a wonderful day and experience!

Just be sure you choose your language well. It can make your experience better. The bus ride needed broken up in the way back. Long hot ride. The scenery was beautiful and the food in Cafayate delicious!

The bus ride along the gorge is amazing, I did not even want to blink. The visit to the winery is also nice. But most of all I will recommend this tour for the views.

This tour did not take place. After receiving a confirmation email in the afternoon the tour company phoned me after 9:00pm to say that the tour was cancelled. Too late to book anything else. A day wasted in Salta. Would never recommend this company. There are reputable tour agencies in Salta that do not cancel tours so do your homework before booking.

Although it was a very long day (13 hours), it was well-paced and interesting. We had enough time for photos and good explanations along the way. The guide and driver were great. The scenery is spectacular and Cafayete is charming. The wine tour and tasting were quite short, but that was okay with me.

We had a nice day. We left on time from the meeting point. Our guide Angie and our driver Mauricio were great. We stopped a number of times on our way to Cayafate to look at various rock formations, and we had plenty of time to take pictures. The visit at the winery and the wine tasting were pleasant, but they were conducted by staff at the winery in Spanish only (our tour guide was not allowed to guide us there). So we could not totally enjoy this part at its full potential. The visit in Cafayate was great. We had a great meal, and we had free time to visit the village and do some shopping.

Excellent scenery from a well informed and interesting guide - Jeremy - he really came in to his own and went the extra mile to help me out by arrangement of a taxi for me when he found the tour would over -run the time via tour stated it would take and saved the day allowing me to get back to the airport in time

A great trip through the Quebrada de las Conchas

The only hard part was figuring out when and where the tour began : thankfully, I contacted Nordic in advance by WhatsApp to confirm and they gave me the information. But once I was safely ensconced in the bus, it was a wonderful experience! The landscapes were jaw-dropping, the wine was excellent, and our guide Angie spoke English very well and was full of helpful tips.

Failed trip

I had no experience to comment, because they did not come to pick us up (two persons) from the hotel. Although the trip was advertised as having "pickup from centrally located hotels included" (mine was such - within 20 blocks from the travel agency office in Salta) they did not come. I was trying to phone the agency office but nobody answered until 8:15 when we understood that the agency deicided the prvious day to start the trip from a meeting point at their office and without picking up tourists from the hotels. We immediately went to the agency where an young man explained us that they tried to contact me by phone but I did not answer them. As a result they admitted that they did not succeed to inform me about the change. They did not try an alternative method of contacting me - they did not send me an email. They knew that we would miss the trip, but they did not send a message or a messenger to my hotel to deliver the change in the trip. Actually one day before the trip (22-Jan-2020) I received an email from Viator that Nordic Travel EVT wanted my full names and passport number!?! (which should have been available to them since the day of my booking the trip). So it turns out that they could send me silly and senseless messages but could not send me the important news that they will not pick us up from the hotel! Finally the travel agency officer told me that the agency will refund the full amount to my credit card. My question when that will happen was answered "Today we will make the refund to Viator and then you will receive the money from them". That "today" was 23-January-2020 and till 08-February-2020 the amount is still not credited to my bank account. It is a question of 54 US dollars, but it also a question of trust and honor. Please investigate and deal with that refund. I have been travelling the last 10 years a lot with agencies provided by Viator - maybe more than 30 trips so far and this is the first time a booked trip failed. Best regards, Evgeni Bonev

Great Day Out

This is a great day tour to attend, the scenery was amazing and the tour guide (emmenule? lady) was very kind to us as we were the only English speaking couple. The weather was wonderful and this made the wine tastings sessions at two wineries worth it! If you are stuck for something to do while in Salta this is recommended (Nordic Tours)

The views and stops along the way were breathtaking and the winery was worth the drive but there was a difference between the tour guide information in English and Spanish. I was accompanied on this tour with a fluent Spanish speaker and she could tell that the translation between what was said in Spanish was not as detailed when spoken in English. In addition, we were given a 30 minute pickup window and instead the tour guide picked us up 30 minutes beyond this given window - 6:30 in the morning is very early so one hour past that, it would have been a nice time to have still been sleeping. Again, the winery and views made up for the lack of English information and the lateness of the guide.

Plenty of geographical marvels to...

Plenty of geographical marvels to wonder at, with a knowledgeable guide to explain them all. So much to see that inevitably you don't get to spend much time at each place. The town of Cafayate is a lovely sleepy place with colonial architecture and plenty of food and drink options. If craft markets aren't your thing, ask to be directed straight to the town centre it's only a few minutes' walk and given a meet time and place. Wine-tasting was great - four different wines! If purchasing, watch what the natives if there are any on the tour are paying first, so that you can avoid gringo pricing. The tour started a little late because the guide had to get a bus from where he lives into Salta. They must know that, so why don't they a pay for a taxi, b put him up in a hotel or c change the advertised start time?

The scenery is wonderful and if you are into geology you will have a super time. The vineyard/winery tour is not worth the effort 10 minutes of historical input then sales. Cafayate is small but the restaurant the guide suggests was good value. The guide on the tour was fantastic very knowledgeable and personal. I think his name was Martine. Like anywhere in Argentina there is a long time spent on a bus but if you like spectacular scenery it will be wort your while.
