Overview

Monteverde is a Mecca for nature lovers, and this full-day trip won’t disappoint. On the way there, stop at the largest fruit stand in the country and sample a variety of tropical fruits. An absolutely great tour that I would recommend for anyone visiting Costarica. Alex (our driver and guide) was really friendly and made sure that we had a good time. During the tour we visited some really authentic places e.g. where we went for lunch. The sky tram and the guided hike in the forest were really awesome 👌

Magical Montverde Cloud Forest

Magical experience!! Loved the cloud forest. The guided tour through the forest and over the hanging bridges was informative and beautiful. The sky tram was amazing. Our driver Luis was very safe and the van was comfortable. Our guide Augustin was very knowledgeable. A great experience!!

Memorable Experience at Monteverde Sky Tram & Hanging Bridges

Our tour guide, Oscar, did an excellent job to provide us with a wonderful experience. He was patient and answered all of our questions. Above all, he was very knowledgeable about the various weather patterns across Costa Rica and how it affects the wildlife and plants in general. The highlight of our trip was the walk on the hanging bridges, learning more about the plants and species on our hike, and ride on the sky tram.

Quick Costa Rica getaway!

We decided to book a trip to Costa Rica for Valentine’s Day’s weekend. We did it very last minute. Stay at the Doubletree Hilton in San Jose. The only thing left was booking our tours. We decided to go to Monteverde Sky tram and hanging bridges tour. Our tour guide (Fernando) picked us up from the hotel and off we went. He made a stop to pick up some fruits from a local fruit stand. Everything was very delicious. Then we made a stop to see some cappuccino monkeys. We also stop at a coffee farm. Here we got to see how they grow and had some lunch. Very tasty! Then we headed to the hanging bridges and sky tram. It was a long day. 13ish hours all together. But very worth it. Had a blast, and our tour guide was great. Highly recommend.

A View Worth Seeing

What an opportunity to travel through the "real" Costa Rica. To travel from San Jose you go through several small towns and many winding roads. Several stops were made along the way because it takes about 3 hours to reach Monteverde from San Jose. But the traveling was worth it! Guillermo, our local tour leader, and his stepson, Steven (who was training as a tour guide), were excited to share their country with us. Guillermo made unscheduled stops so we could take photos of the amazing countryside, as well as the Howler monkeys in trees along the road, and a hot springs hidden along the roadway. The hanging bridges were fun but the sky tram was an awesome experience riding through the clouds. I would definitely recommend this excursion to everyone.

A good outing

Trip was okay. We enjoyed our drive to the Monteverde park. Stops were made at fruit stand and we have seen the same guy twice already from the other tours very overpriced fruits. Our guide was friendly and pleasant. Lunch was at a nice ethnic place with coffee plants in the backyard. The monkey place was a good experience but in my opinion all of these above activities took time away from the real attraction. We were given only half hr for the tram ride in which the views of the forest were awesome. And tour on the bridges was hour and half. The main attraction is amazing wish we spent more tome there than other redundant places. Overall it was a okay tour.

Great experience. The sky tram and cloudforedt hike was worth it. Our guide, Alex, was a wealth of knowledge. Our driver from Go Tours, Juan, was excellent on the trip to Monteverde and back to San Jose.

Our tour guide, Harlem, took us to Monte Verde & he was friendly, informative, accommodating & a genuinely nice person. I would highly recommend him again. Juan Carlos on Hanging bridges was also nice and informative.

Long day with little wildlife

Pro: the company was very responsive and reliable. As a single traveler, I was worried, because Viator only allowed me to book two tickets. However, the company assured me that I could join the group and they would refund me one ticket, which they did very promptly. I really liked the guide whose name sadly escapes me - he clearly cared about us having a pleasant experience. Also, Monteverde had been a dream destination of mine for many years and it really does have a Jurassic park feel to it. The lunch - especially the freshly made lemon juice - at the coffee plantation was also excellent. Cons: it is a very very long day and whether it’s worth it really depends on what you’re looking for. For me, I concluded, I would have been much better off doing an overnight trip to Corcovado National park rather than the 2 excursions I had booked from San Jose (the other one being the volcano and La Paz waterfalls). The drive to Monteverde is through a less exotic park of Costa Rica with a lot of hills that resemble my European home. You do stop at a monkey house and see some wild cappuccinos, but I always feel conflicted about people feeding wildlife. Monteverde itself is reached too late to see wildlife. The walk was beautiful, but you have a good chance of seeing all of the hanging bridges in the rain, only. The real letdown was the sky tramway. It is super short - maybe a third of what most of the group had been expecting. We had one single stop where part of the group saw a sloth but the guide mistimed the stop on the way down and some of us didn’t see it at all. There was not a single bird to be seen anywhere. If you just wanna see the cloudforest because you like a forest with clouds, fair enough, but as a jungle destination, this is definitely not your best option in Costa Rica, let alone Central America. Also: the stop at the „fruit market“ is disappointing- they don’t really have any cut-up options. What were we supposed to do? Buy an entire watermelon or dragon fruit to take back to the hotel with us and cut up with a pocket knife? One more thing: bring your own snacks, if you do go on this tour! Since the restaurant at the Monteverde skytram was under renovations, they told us to just get some snacks from the shop to take on the tram. I paid 18 USD (!!!) for a bag of chips, a tiny drink (not even 300ml) and a single alfajor cookie. I consider myself a generous person who wants locals to benefit from tourism but this was such a blatant rip-off, it left a really bitter taste in my mouth. Again, I can’t fault the tour company, but overall, I would not book this again and go to Corcovado instead.

Nice time in the cloud forest

We went as a family of adults. Oscar/Omar (sorry I missed it) and driver Randy were at the front lobby right on time. Our guide Oscar/Omar is very knowledgeable and shared additional info and was able to answer any questions anyone may have. He showed us cool stops and we enjoyed our time at the Monteverde Park/Sky Tram. We personally loved the nature and greenery. Some parts of the road on the mountains were bumpy and you cannot avoid traffic in San Jose but you’ll experience all of Costa Rica’s weather throughout the day (hot, rainy, and maybe a little chilly in the mountains). Nice wholesome day.

Long but a fun day!

This tour is great! It’s a really long day, but it’s worth the drive. The fruit stand was awesome, and getting to the monkeys so close was cool. Monteverde is beautiful! The skytram was cool. It’s a short ride, but it has a spectacular view point at the top. Our guide for the hanging bridges was wonderful. She taught us so many things about the forest- different plants and trees, found so many animals for us to see, and taught us why Monteverde is so special. It’s beautiful! Take a day and see Monteverde!

Lonnnnngg drive from San Jose but worth it if you're a nature buff. Seeing and feeding the monkeys was great. The hike with swinging bridges was okay, however, plancaccordingly (rain and cold weather gear). Saw no wildlife. Tour guide and driver from San Jose were great. Overall, a really good experience and day away from hotel.

Tour guides make the difference of a memorable day vs. a mediocre day!

ROY, our guide on the suspended bridges hiking trail, made the trip nice for us as well as the Monkey Lady's house. Our guide was just ok - spent most of his time talking on his phone - never offered to pull over and view the valley on such a clear day. The road to the restaurant was horrible and the lunch was average. There appeared to be gaps in the itinerary filled with "fluff". Not good value. As a result, we have booked 2 more full-day tours with another company.

Our best day trip from San Jose

This very full day gave us lots of time to visit Monteverde Sky Forest using the Sky Tram for an amazing view of the massive forest as well as both the Pacific Ocean and Arenal Volcano, followed by a 2 hour guided tour through the 5 hanging bridges connecting the forest offering amazing vegetation and wildlife. However, before that we had time to visit a monkey farm for up close time, a coffee plantation plus a coffee break and a major Costa Rican traditional lunch. A packed day that thanks to our guide Harlem never seems rushed or stressful. I would highly recommend this tour.

This tour was the highlight of my trip! The cloud forest was gorgeous & magical, & it looked like something straight out of a fairytale! The other travelers were great to be with, & Jeffery was an excellent guide who was nice, friendly, & informative & wanted all of us to have a wonderful time. Christian was an excellent driver & was helpful & very nice.
