We really enjoyed this beautiful cemetery. Our guide ( sorry I forgot his name) was very knowledgeable and funny. He took the time to explain the history and stories of those buried there.

Tour Good but meeting details need improvement

Tour guide was very informative. Directions to start tour were poor— no specific information regarding parking, meeting up with tour guide etc. Our tour started late because we parked in the wrong lot and had a 10 minute walk to meeting spot per reservation instructions. The tour group waited at designated spot for 10 minutes. When no tour guide showed up, we called and were informed he may have left because we weren’t on time (even though we were). Finally found tour guide- he wasn’t in designated area. Definitely recommend more precise instructions for parking and connecting with tour guide.

Poor experience

Extremely upset and disappointed. I will take my fair share of the responsibility as we were going to be about 5 min or less late. So slightly poor planning on my part; however we did call to alert them about a possible late arrival. As it turns out we pulled into the gates at 11:01. I let my husband out so he could meet the group and we could park. He got out and walked all around the building and I stress this point he was in the location stated on the email. He asked several people if they were Nick. They kept telling him no. I called after about 10 min asking where to find her they said they didn’t know and a send a text. Nick did not respond. The whole reason I came to Savannah was that tour and the guide couldn’t even be bothered to waitafter being politely informed of a potential 5 min delay. No I’m not exaggerating we checked the clock when we came in the gate and called it was 5 minutes. So after waiting less than 10 min this tour guide was no where to be found and I was told she was unreachable. What guide leaves when informed and less than 5 min late! Worse yet they refused to refund me so now I’m out a tour and missed out on the one thing I had set up plus a rain check for a tour I may never use even if it is in a different city. Very disappointing and sad that the guide just left and worse yet company refused to call her cell.

Nick is a great tour guide, personality perfectly suited to the Bonaventure Cemetery tour! He kept our relatively small group together with no hassle, he waited for all to be assembled before speaking, he waited for distracting sounds (like airplanes or other tour guides) to diminish so all could hear and had very interesting facts and anecdotes keyed to what he was showing us. His passion and specialty are the sculptures especially by Walz throughout the cemetery and which are most impressive. Nick spoke with a passion and sometimes even seemed moved by the stories he shared with us. The 90 minutes went by too fast, but we treasured each of them. Be aware that other guides will have differing specialties including architecture, history, etc. They should all be interesting to provide a complete picture of life and death in the main era of Bonaventure. Yes, you will get some interesting info on key figures (and their graves) from the book and movie of "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil," but that is not the main point of this tour., nor is it a ghost tour. Take this one for shear enjoyment and appreciation of a very talented sculpture's work.

They canceled the tour, but still sent out a reminder email the morning of and didn't text me, so I took the bus across town to not have a tour. If I had known earlier I could have hopped on a different one.

Jim was an excellent guide who weaved facinating stories about the families who owned plots in the cemetary with the history of Savannah. He was very knowledgeable, funny, and engaging. lnitially we were hesitant to tour a cemetary, but we were glad we did.

Not So Interesting

I kind of felt like my guide could have been my Uber driver. There was not much interaction back and forth, and my husband and I were the only ones on the tour. Other tour guides in the cemetery seemed to be giving much more information at each site. My guide was nice enough, but there was something missing.

Tour said to be there at 10:45. We waited until 11:10, still no guide. I contacted Viator who told us a bit later that our guide was running late and “on the way.” Waited until about 11:30 and left. There was no communication from their end. Would not recommend if you want a reliable tour operator. Had to ask for my money back- it wasn’t just offered.
