What To Expect

Your tour starts with afternoon pickup from your hotel and transfer by van to the dog sled headquarters. Your guide shares a brief overview of dog mushing, then takes you out to meet the furry stars of the team. Your guides introduce you to some of the more than 90 dogs and answer questions about the canine athletes.

Watch as your guide gets the dog team harnessed up, then step into your sled for your ride into the wilderness. The all-weather sled is equipped with comfortable padded seats and tires for warmer conditions. Have time for photo ops of Alaska's natural beauty and the dogs at work as you ride through the woods.

After your sled ride, return to the kennel area to see the adorable puppies. Have time to play with the husky pups and pose for photos. Then learn about the supplies needed for the Iditarod, and watch a demonstration about harnesses, training, and race strategy for the dogs.

Your tour ends with return transfer to your hotel in Seward.

This was an amazing experience! My guide was amazing and the team (dogs) were so cute and playful. If you ever saw snow dogs or balto growing up, this should be on your list of things to to in Seward. You won’t regret it!
The Kids Loved It

This is a cute little tour of the Ididarod culture in Alaska then a ride with a dog team on a metal cart. The kids even got to hold some puppies. The kids would tell you this was their favorite thing of the entire vacation.
Fantastic

We did this event in 2019 and are glad to see they changed it up a little though both times were great. Well versed team members who were friendly and enthusiastic! We loved the run along with meeting all the dogs.

Be part of summer Iditarod training
Jill_P, Jul 2023
What a wonderful way to interact with dogs training for the Iditarod! Not only were we educated about the process and what it takes to get them ready for such a race, we were part of the training! The sled ride was thrilling and a great alternative as opposed to landing on a glacier and riding with them. The staff was very knowledgeable, friendly, and wonderful presenters.
Happy dogs Happy people

Seeing the 14 dogs so eager to get started pulling us and watching them work as a happy team as they charged down the path was exhilarating. The guide Lara told us a lot of things I didn't know about being a musher in the long mushing races. Kids in our tour group really loved handling the six- to eight-week old puppies which were totally adorable and friendly. They were happy to pick us up in their van from anywhere we happened to find ourselves in town at the time was needed to make our way to their location and they dropped us off wherever we wanted after, both complementary rides.
Great experience

All of it, but the puppies were awesome! The sled dogs were great, and really seemed to enjoy running just as much as Hunter said they would.

Our musher was so fun and just a sweetheart. The ride on the dog sled was the best so fun. Watching all the dogs get harnessed up. Holding the puppy’s learning all about dog sled racing. Would do it again.
Great Family Friendly
