What To Expect

Begin your half-day trip with pickup from your hotel or cruise port in Sorrento. Meet your guide and travel to the massive archaeological site of Pompeii, where Mt. Vesuvius spewed tons of volcanic ash in AD 79, burying the prosperous city along with 20,000 of its residents.

Now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, hop out of your coach and explore the preserved ruins 2,000 years after the eruption. Follow your guide past preserve locations like the Forum, Thermal Baths, and the famous Lupanare brothel. As you go, hear the history behind the ancient city and each of the surviving locations.

The inadequate...

The inadequate organization of the tour had us waiting 15+ minutes for three tour participants that didn't show up on time, after arrival at Pompei we waited another 15+ minutes for the guide to arrive, the general disorder of getting the group prepared for the tour consumed another 30 minutes), and then the tour was concluded with the tour group having 30 minutes of "free time" before the buses began the return to Sorrentino. Due to the various losses of time, the actual touring of the Pompei ruins lasted about 2.5 hours of the "half-day" advertised.

Our guide was wonderful thru the ruins! Our only complaint was our driver didn’t talk to us or tell us what was going on. We think he may have been new, yet, welcoming us and letting us know the plan for the drive there would have been nice. We didn’t know what the plan was and how many stops there was going to be. We were the first ones picked up so it seemed to take quite awhile to get to the ruins. A heads up would have been nice. Also we only had 10 minutes to grab some type of lunch. We wish we had at least a half hour. Overall we really enjoyed our time.

Visiting Pompeii was an eye opening tour. Incredible to walk in the steps of a civilisation cut short so quickly by the Vesuvius eruption. So much to see and there is still so much being excavated and being conserved. Truly amazing.

Our driver from Sorrento was amazing, timely, and friendly. Our tour guide, Elisa was so informative, knowledgeable, and interesting to listen to. She took us all over the Pompeii ruins and told about the amazing history. She gave us time to take photos and spoke incredible English.

Easy pickup and drop off. The 4 hour package is perfect - just the right amount of time to really understand the place without getting tied an overloaded. We went in mid-Feburary so there were no crowds or long lines.

This was an enjoyable tour despite the hot and humid weather and tremendous crowds on the day we went to Pompeii. The air-conditioned van picked us up promptly and the drive to and from Sorrento was pleasant. The tour group was almost 40 people, but our guide Eliza was charming and very experienced. She seemed to know very well how to navigate through the site while avoiding the crowds and giving our group the opportunity to see the highlights of Pompeii. This was our first visit to Pompeii and I would recommend the tour if only to "beat the line" given the popularity of this fascinating archeological site.

I gave this 4 stars because our guide was fantastic. Mario was our guide and was actually an archaeologist who worked at Pompeii during university. He did a good job keeping us together during the crowds and explaining what Pompeii was like before the eruptions. He gave us a lot of insight in the short amount of time we were with him. This would have been. 5 star experience, but it was a little chaotic with pickup and drop off and the shuttle services. People had all different tour options booked, so it gets a little confusing. Be prepared for the heat and mosquitos. I brought a water bottle with me that saved me, but typically no food or drinks are allowed inside. There is an area outside the entrance where food, drinks and souvenirs can be bought. Also keep in mind that many of the key artifacts you would expect to see are in the Naples museum. I would do this tour again, but I would make plans to go to the museum in Naples as well.

Great tour guide; Eliza is wonderful and very knowledgeable. Bring change with you as you need to pay to use the bathroom at the entrance of the site. Once inside the ruin there are free for use bathrooms. Tour started much later than stated and pick up time was much earlier. They have to accommodate the whole group so plan for that. Tourist prices for drinks and food at the site entrance. $12 a lemonade Transport drivers and buses were very nice and clean and just right amount of AC. I’d do this again. All people were friendly and it felt safe.
