What To Expect

Make your own way to the boat dock at Circular Quay to board the spacious vessel that takes you out on the waters of Sydney Harbour. Soak up views of the waterfront, skyline, and famous landmarks including Sydney Harbour Bridge, Sydney Opera House, and Fort Denison as your boat cruises across the scenic harbor to the north shore, where you disembark for the zoo.

Once inside the zoo, enjoy the many exhibits at your own pace. More than 2,900 animals live here in 10 themed areas—including Wild Australia, Wild Asia, and the Great Southern Oceans. The enclosures mimic the natural habitat of each creature. Check the daily schedule for keeper talks, which focus on animals such as Tasmanian devils, little penguins, giraffes, lemurs, and koalas. You may want to watch the seals in action at Seal Theatre or catch the free-flight bird show, where birds of prey demonstrate their hunting skills.

Enjoy sweeping views of iconic sights such as Sydney Harbour Bridge and Sydney Opera House both from your boat cruise and the Taronga Zoo, aka 'the zoo with the view.'

Taronga Zoo also has many picnic areas; feel free to bring a picnic basket and enjoy lunch with views of Sydney Harbour, or purchase food at one of the on-site cafes or restaurants. When you have finished your zoo visit, simply return to the dock to catch the cruise back to Circular Quay.

The Sydney Zoo was amazing. We had so much fun. The cruise over and back gave us great views of the city, the Opera House, and Sydney bridge. A fantastic day all around.

Pros - Great zoo. Will take you at least half a day or more if you have to cover it Cons - 1. The zoo starts later than after the first ferry arrives from Darling Harbour. So, you have to wait 2. The fare for the bus ride to the top of the zoo is not included. 3. On the return, the officials at Darling Harbour do not recognize the ferry ticket provided by Captain Cook cruises and ask for payment. Better carry an Opal card to resolve these issues.

The zoo was very easy to get around once I figured out there was an app with live/real time directions from exhibit to exhibit. Ferry ride was nice and view of Sydney Harbor was beautiful.

The Zoo is lovely with the backdrop of Sydney Harbor. Saw Koalas Had a really good sandwich at the zoo Wonderful gift shop The Ferry was Capt Cook and not that good. Got to the zoo at 10 am. Then saw the next ferry to get back was at 1pm Took the city ferry back- 66 cents

Wonderful I got lost a couple of times and if you need a mobility scooter book ahead I couldn't get one which made things difficult but it was well worth the visit. The ferry was beautiful too.

This was a great day. Ticket pickup at ferry was quick and easy. Beautiful boat ride to the zoo past the Sydney landmarks which provide great picture opportunities. The zoo was special and we did the koala experience for a few more dollars. You get five minutes up close with some great selfies. It is a great five minutes. The return times with the excursion were not convenient for us so we paid $7AUD to get back instead of waiting for the included return voyage. Not complaining, but letting everyone know about this option. This Viator bundle makes it easy. We loved this special day.
