What To Expect

Sydney Taronga Zoo opened in 1916 and has since become a major force for animal care, research, and conservation. You can take the ferry from Circular Quay to the zoo, a scenic ride that gives you stunning waterside views of the harbor city.

Once inside the zoo, proceed around ten themed areas where the animals live in surroundings similar to their natural habitats. Some of the featured themes focus on Wild Australia, the Great Southern Oceans and Wild Asia. x

Other optional activities such as animal encounters and guided tours can be booked at your own expense.

Animals are happy here , running , playing fighting etc. together. Facilities are good such as toilet canteen , free fresh water.

What an awesome day. This is a must do with any trip to Sydney. It’s a short ferry ride from the city. You regret it , if you skip this .

Koala bears were the best part. I would suggest to have more water refill stations. There was only two near the market and they were both closed. I am assuming the reason these were closed so you were forced to go buy water in the market. All in all the zoo was a good experience and interesting place to go to. Due to the heat, a lot of animals were not out and visible. Good the tiger, although he was in a enclosed cage.

Scan QR and enter. Ferry over, take bus or cable car to the top. Worth seeing. A smaller zoo along the likes of San Diego.

Easy to get to the zoo just walk up the hill from the ferry to the entrance. Showed them my phone ticket and got in quickly. The animals look Happy and have nice enclosures and you can see them all pretty well. Love the koala and kangaroo section because they are not hidden by cages or fences. In fact, the kangaroos could go up to you if they wanted to. You could be about 5 feet away from the koala bear in a tree!

Excellent experience highlighted by great guidance from Volunteer Graham who made our visit truly special. Would highly recommend! Some of our favorites were the tree kangaroos, the silverback, gorilla, the koalas, and the cassowary! Was amazing and very well organized! We were there several hours and didnt get to see it all!

There’s no need to redeem any ticket. Just proceed to the main entrance and get your QR code to be scanned and you’re set to go! Zoo is big with amazing layouts and glad to know that the animals are well fed and taken care of. You can also multiple amazing views of the city centre across the harbour in diff angles.

We took the ferry over to the zoo. It took a total of 3 hours to complete our trip. Nice variety of animals. It was a hot day but plenty of shade to combat the heat.

We spent 6 hours in the zoo and were not able to visit all the sites. The layout of the zoo sites is very well maintained. Small pingiuins, coualas and jiraphas were our favorite.

A guide helps visitors learn about the animals

Though we enjoyed visiting the zoo a lot, we realized when we happened to be able to hear a guide talking to a group, we realized that we would have learned so much more and enjoyed it more if we were with a guide. The organization and management of the zoo was efficient allowing for a large number of people coming into the zoo to quickly spread out so it never felt crowded. The zoo was a place where animals could be observed in a natural habitat, which allowed me to feel comfortable in the setting.
