Trek deep into the canyons of Rincon de la Vieja Volcano to reach the impressive La Leona waterfall on this private, guided day tour. Gio is our tour guy, he is very knowledgeable about the surrounding area. It is quite hike to get to waterfall. But once we get there, beautiful waterfalls just take your breath away. Highly recommend it

The bio diversity lessons guide Dylan was so interesting. The waterfall was definitely the start of the show but the beautiful shaded forest along the entire hike was spectacular

The waterfalls and swimming through the canyons .. white faced monkeys were an added bonus Our guide was great and the water was cool and refreshing . Need to be able to hike a distance over rocks and climb small ladders

Dillon our guide was great, very knowledgeable about the foliage and surroundings. He spoke English very well. He took the time to take pictures of my boyfriend and I whenever we asked. He helped us up ladders and over boulders on our hike to the waterfall. Everything was beautiful! The only drawbacks were having to wait in line to get to the final waterfall destination. This is obviously a popular excursion so there were quite a few larger groups of people with guides ahead of us, we had just the 2 of us as we paid for a private tour. The other thing was while the terrain was beautiful, we saw very little wildlife, but at the end of our hike back, we did see a family of white faced monkeys in a tree right next to the path and that was awesome! NOTE: you do not need insect repellent or sunscreen or hiking shoes. What you DO NEED is a swim suit or clothes you are ok swimming and getting wet in, and water shoes with good grip. Also, this hike is not recommended in my opinion for babies, toddlers or elderly people as you are climbing over boulders, climbing ladders and holding on to ropes to scale steep rocks. Lunch was good as well, traditional Costa Rican beans and rice, fruit juice and with your choice of pork, chicken or beef. Overall loved the excursion and Dillon, thank you for a wonderful time!

Dylan was an incredible guide. So engaged and in tune with nature, understands symbiotic relationships and how humans fit in. Excellent English for those that need it. This hike is a challenge. We are fit senior citizens that have done intermediate hiking in the US. You need proper footwear - not just “water shoes.” Plenty of scrambling, waist-deep (and more) water. You will get wet - completely wet head to toe. Don’t let the tour description confuse you. It was EXCELLENT. Honestly, I felt exhilaration when I completed the day. I was exhausted, it was more difficult than I anticipated, but that ENHANCED the experience. You can do it! Again, Dylan is a superstar. Ask for him if you can.

SPECTACULAR HIKE!!!

This was my fifth time in Costa Rica and I've been on multiple hikes in different regions but this one was absolutely off the charts. Our guide was terrific, a combination of fun, informative, and super friendly. The degree of difficulty was moderate and included stunning scenery and landscapes that I'll never forget. It also involved a short swim up a crystal clear river through gorgeous giant rock formations to reach a magnificent waterfall. That brought the experience to a whole other level. If you're into nature, wildlife, and adventure, then do NOT miss this tour.

Amazing hike and well worth money. You could not do this with out a guide as there isnt even really a trail . I believe there are more than one way to get to waterfall which is why some people say its easy and other say it was a lot harder than expected. We did the harder one and definitely was more than we expected and we are young fit mid 20 year olds. Got a bruise and a cut on my elbow as you go through lots of rivers and climb rocks and go through caves. I do not know how to swim but was fine , just didn’t do cliff jump even tho I had life jacket. Guide was extremely helpful and knowledgeable and made it so fun. Definitely recommend even if you are a little hesitant as the guide helps you if you get stuck . Tons of great photo opportunities and also it was 3 waterfalls which all were amazing and very different (might only be if you go through harder trail.) Had SO much fun and food at end was delicious.

Worth every effort to get to the falls!

We had such a wonderful time on this incredible adventure! Our small group got an early start and enjoyed a leisurely (but definitely challenging as it went on!) hike to the waterfall! We learned a lot along the way, and felt very safe and tended to throughout our journey. The description says “intermediate” and they are not kidding. I think by US standards this might be considered an advanced excursion, but I’m 46 and in questionable shape and managed just fine ;) Do plan to get wet and packing a dry bag is a good idea (although they have lockers and dry bags you can use there). The falls were ABSOLUTELY worth the effort to get there. Just know if you have mobility issues of any kind, this is probably not your trip. If you’re not a swimmer, it’s ok…there are life jackets for everyone. The water to get to the falls is a bit intense in the narrows, but at the falls it’s easy and calm. We did see someone lose their glasses, though, so be aware of the risks! The lunch at the campground was delicious as well, and it was really fun to eat the fresh, local food. Even though it was hot, there were lots of opportunities to stop when needed and cool off in the river. I recommend a water bottle you can securely attach to your dry bag to stay hydrated along the way.

Amazing! Great value for money!!!! The lunch alone is worth the money paid for the trip! Our guide was great and his English was amazing. Told us everything we needed to know and went at our pace. It is a hard hike, but not impossible. First time I have ever been swimming with my shoes on!

Jason was our tour guide. He was very knowledgeable and spoke pretty decent English-enough for us to connect with him and really be immersed in the experience. He also took great pictures for our group! We were a little confused about the description of this tour provided on the app as far as what to wear and the details of the hiking portion. The hike is mostly flat and is around 3km. The tour is about 4 hrs long (including eating lunch). You will want to wear Chacos/Tevas or any water shoe with good traction as you will cross the river multiple times and the rocks can be somewhat slippery. We wore a swimsuit with gym clothes over it. There are points where you are fully emerged in the water (you have to cross/go through the river to get to the waterfall, so only bring your necessities (i.e. phone) and the guide will carry those in their dry bag. We felt safe on this tour and Jason was kind enough to help me through a lot of areas as I have a bad knee. He is very patient, kind and fun to chat with. I would highly recommend this tour and I would request Jason!

This was an amazing experience all thanks to our tour guide Fabrizio. The hike was challenging, but very fun. It involved trekking through water, climbing up rocks, jumping off cliffs, and going down natural water slides. 10/10 would recommend.

Our tour guide, Enoc, was amazing! He really tailored the tour to the two of us and went at our speed. His English was perfect and he was so knowledgeable about La Leona and EVERYTHING Costa Rica! The hike to the falls was so scenic and there was something educational at every turn. It was an easy hike, for all levels. The falls are beautiful and you can have the option to swim right up to it. The lunch was really delicious too. For the personalized service we received, it was a great value for the dollar. I recommend going as early as possible to beat the crowds.
