What To Expect

Your tour begins with morning pickup in Te Anau or Manapour and a scenic drive to Milford Sound.

Stop first at Te Anau Downs and view the sheltered harbor, Bluegum Bay, which sits opposite the Middle Fiord, the starting point for the Milford Track. Then, take in views of the Earl and Livingston Mountains at Eglinton Valley.

Take a short stroll along a boardwalk at Mirror Lakes to see beech forest and wetland pools. The 45th South Parallel marks the halfway point between the equator and the South Pole.

Stop next at Cascade Creek, then the Hollyford Lookout, which overlooks the Hollyford Valley and Darren Mountains. Have the option to do the walk to Marian Cascade, which tumbles from Lake Marian before pulling into Gunn’s Camp for morning tea, followed by the historic museum and gift shop.

Get photo ops at Fall’s Creek and Monkey Creek, and if time allows, a quick walk leads to a point with views of the Gertrude Valley. Look for kea sightings at the east portal of the 4,166 foot (1,270 meter) long Homer Tunnel and pass through the scenic Cleddau Valley. During the last part of the journey to Milford Sound, take a short walk to The Chasm, rock formations that make up a 72-foot (22-meter) deep and narrow ravine cut by the Cleddau River.

Snap photos of Mt. Tutoko, the highest mountain in Fiordland, Tutoko Bridge, and Mt. Tutoko as a backdrop. Then arrive at the departure point for your cruise. Enjoy a cruise on Milford Sound, keeping an eye out for dolphins, seals, and the Fiordland crested penguin.

Your tour ends with return to your accommodation.

Wet but beautiful.
Sue_C, Apr 2024
Great day despite the wet weather as it meant more waterfalls on the Milford Sound cruise and plenty to be seen from the road. Excellent driver in Stephen and numerous stops. Snow on the peaks was a bonus.
Extraordinary day
Lynne_P, Apr 2024
Amazing day. We were very fortunate with the weather. The driver was friendly, knowledgeable and helpful.
Great trip but expensive
darrel_g, Apr 2024
The guide was great ,very knowledgeable around the local area and in geology. The boat cruise was great. Lunch was ok could be improved wasn’t that substantial. Even though it was a great day I really don’t think it was value for money it was quite expensive fir what we got
Do Milford sound from te anau not Queenstown, no question about it
Andrea_G, Mar 2024
Really lovely, energetic guide, which was so welcome, reassuring and uplifting on this early cold wet morning. Thank you Tania!

Spectacular views, lots of stops on the way. Tour guide was absolutely amazing as well. The date scones and coffee were great along with the included lunch.
Magnificent Milford Sound Tour
Maike_S, Mar 2024
We loved our Milford Sound trip. The nature is just breathtaking and our guide, Russel, had extensive knowledge about the area, its history and its challenges. Plus he had a terrific sense of humor. All in all, it was a very well organized tour in a small group, which I would recommend to anyone who seeks an extraordinary experience.
Do this trip for sure!
Gregg_P, Mar 2024
Beautiful country side and sound. It was wild that day with 60 MPH winds and driving rain but the waterfalls were flowing and they were everywhere coming from the mountains; quite a sight! Tour guide was great. Boat was rough.
Amazing and spectacular
Patricia_L, Feb 2024
An amazing trip, superb scenery and a knowledgeable and amusing guide who went over and above what was expected. He even turned the coach back when l realised l had left my phone at a previous stop. He ensured that we stopped at all the scenic views to take photos.
Best Tour Choice Ever!!
Mike_W, Feb 2024
We wanted to see Milford Sound without having to drive to it ourselves, as New Zealand roads are hard to get opportunities to see, and to stop for photos. Most tours come from Queenstown, and most of the day is spent riding in a bus. Taking this tour allowed us to make over 20 stops, and to take the boat tour before the rush. Our driver, Karlyn, was a great guide. He made sure we got maximum photo opportunities., and had the time to see so much. We were picked up almost at our doorstep and dropped off just the same. The included lunch was probably the best we have ever gotten on a tour. We tried to get a lunch from the same place, The Olive Tree, in Te Ana’s, but they were closed… Please give these guys a chance to give you a good tour!!
Great Tour Even in the Rain!
John_M, Feb 2024
Stephen was very knowledgeable and charismatic. We got so much information. It was raining the entire day, but it was definitely a plus. We saw soooo many huge gushing waterfalls. We drove the route to Milford Sound the next day, and most of the waterfalls were gone. We could appreciate the beautiful mountain peaks, so we got the best of both worlds…a plethora of waterfalls on our cruise on one day, and stunning mountain vistas on the next. My only suggestion would be to allow couples to order different lunches. My wife wanted the seafood, and I wanted ham. There was no place to separate the order.
Such a great way to see the Fiordland NP and Milford Sound
virginia_R, Feb 2024
This was a really great trip. Well organised, it ran on time, there were lots of stops on the way and way back to take in the amazing scenery and the boat trip was terrific . Tania our driver/guide was excellent, she was knowledgeable, interesting and fun! We would highly recommend this trip to anyone. It really was a great way to spend a day. Thank you
Wonderful Milford sound Tour

Canadians Down Under
Lori_S, Feb 2024
The entire day was an epic day! We were a bit concerned when we woke up to snow in the mountains middle of summer! But that just made the experience more surreal! The mountains and waterfallls (as the snow melted) were spectacular. Our bus driver, Steve, was a very enjoyable and knowledgeable companion for the day. The scenery and stops we made to the Sound were every bit as beautiful as the fjord tour. Would highly recommend! Oh and the homemade scones were a nice treat as well!

Thank you for your Canadians Down Under review. You have a day in our crazy summer with several seasons in one day. Thanks again. Regards Ray
Great trip and guide
James_K, Jan 2024
The ride to Milford Sound was excellent, our guide was local and had much to share. The stops helped break up the ride and gave us a chance to take pictures. Milford Sound was nice, unfortunately the sun was not cooperating.
Response from Host, Mar 2024
Thank you for your review. Come another time. The sun does shine sometimes, I promise. Regards Ray
Gorgeous views, fun, and informative
Gar_C, Jan 2024
We had a wonderful time! Sacha was a fantastic guide full of really interesting information and stories as well as personal experience gleaned from years of living and working in and around Milford Sound. The packed lunches were tasty and sitting eating a buttered scone with a view of the mountains was something else. We really enjoyed the cruise as well as all the picturesque stops before and afterwards. Thanks for a lovely trip!
Response from Host, Mar 2024
Thank you for your wonderful review about the Milford Sound Tour you did with Sacha recently. Regards Ray
Self drive vs this tour
Sai_P, Dec 2023
This tour is good if you don’t want to drive yourself to Milford Sound yourself to take the cruise. Their are few issues in driving yourself that one should keep in mind. One is there may be shortage of parking there. When we went there in December holiday time, it was very busy and we saw few cars desperately looking for car parking as their cruise was almost leaving. Second challenge is the road itself. It’s little tricky. Give yourself extra couple of hours than what Google map says you. I did this tour as well as self drove another day. I think self driving is better as it gives a lot of flexibility in stoping at as many of places as you want. Do some research before to decide which places you are stopping and what you are doing. I would say start in the morning from Te Anau and take the late evening cruise so that you have sufficient time. If you don’t want the hassles then this tour is very good. Our driver/tour guide Tania was amazing.
Response from Host, Mar 2024
For confused readers of this review, you will note that it is more about the writer driving themselves after learning where to go. Without a tour, you simply do not know where to go. It is possible to self-drive and do free parking and walk for 30 minutes to get to the ferry terminal and watch your cruise boat disappearing out the sound without you. Regards Ray
Outstanding tour and learning experience.
Graeme_H, Dec 2023
This tour was one of the highlights of our time in NZ, maybe even the greatest highlight. The bus driver / tour guide was outstanding in his knowledge of the area and how he presented what he knew. He was able to access many interesting points along the way. He was very entertaining, helped with photographs, which all contributed to great fun. The cruise was memorable with terrific on-board commentary and close access to wildlife. What we experienced couldn't have happened if driving to the sound one self.
Response from Host, Mar 2024
Thank you for your wonderful review of our small group tour to Milford Sound. We are pleased that you rated it as the best. Regards Ray
Great Day Out
Harry_R, Dec 2023
My partner and I were picked up from the place we were staying. The tour begun with a drive from Te Anau through to Milford Sound where the tour guide was extremely knowledgeable about the surrounding area and was very interesting to listen too. He knew all the perfect spots to stop and have a walk around in and had the most magnificent views. The boat tour through Milford Sound was picture perfect and the drive home was equally as good as the drive there. My partner and I had a wonderful time and would recommend this 100% to anyone

Thank you for your wonderful review and the time spent to write it. Regards Ray
Amazing Scenery

Great experience. Excellent commentary on both the bus and boat rides. We added the helicopter experience over the glaciers.
