What To Expect

Meet your guide at your hotel, settle into your private vehicle and soak up the scenery on the approximately 2-hour journey to Mauthausen. On arrival, head to the Visitor Center to pick up your audio guide and set out on your self-guided tour as your driver waits for you outside.

Stroll around the harrowing site and listen to the audio commentary as you see the Wiener-Graben quarry, the SS-Quarters and the Camp Prison. Hear how some 200,000 people from all over Europe were imprisoned in Mauthausen between 1938 and 1945 as you walk between the Stairs of Death and the Gas Chamber, where almost half of them lost their lives.

Then, visit the recently re-opened Mauthausen Museum to learn more about the darkest days of Austria’s history, the Nazi regime and the Mauthausen concentration camp, which was one of the largest labor camp complexes in the Third Reich.

This is relevant history no matter what year it is. There is ALWAYS people trying to control others and we haven't learned yet.

e parlava soltanto inglese. Nessun problema comunque nella visita al campo perchè l'audioguida in italiano è eccezionale e semplice da usare. Anche se la guida non parlava italiano è stato gentilissimo e puntualissimo, il van era molto confortevole nel viaggio di 2 ore Vienna-Mathausen. Importante: la guida ci ha portato con il van a vedere la "scala della morte" dal basso perchè non era accessibile dall'alto. E' stata una esperienza molto toccante per noi e per i nostri figli, la "stanza dei nomi" non si dimentica facilmente, impressionante. Perfetto il meccanismo di prenotazione Viator e le informazioni fornite prima della partenza, comodo pick-up personalizzato dal nostro hotel.
