Hi Wendy, this is Tim replying, the owner and operator of Alexandria History Tours. I appreciate you taking a tour with me and my company. I really enjoyed showing you and Steve around our beautiful city and enjoyed getting to know you all on the tour. Thank you for taking the time to provide a review and feedback. I will mention that since you thought it could have been better that I take this feedback very seriously. I am curious though how there was not a lot of explanation of how the buildings or sites did not fit into American history. For example, at the Carlyle House, I discussed how the history of the Carlyle House tied into the French and Indian War and ultimately George Washington's selection as commander-in-chief at the outset of the Revolutionary War. I then covered how it became a hotel, Civil War hospital, and later was restored by the bicentennial. At Gadsby's Tavern, we covered how the history of the tavern was tied into the creation of Washington D.C. and also the early American presidents who visited there like Thomas Jefferson. I mentioned specifically Jefferson's visit to Mount Vernon and the schism that existed between him and George Washington later in their lives. From the outset of the tour, we covered how the shoreline developed and how Alexandria evolved as a port city and then I showed the evolution of the city landscape with the cobblestone streets. If I recall, we also went inside of Christ Church since I am one of the volunteer docents at Christ Church, I talked about how the church is 251 years old and its connection to the Church of England. I discussed Washington's purchase of his box pew and how multiple American presidents have sat in it at critical moments in our nation's history. If these stories were insufficient and did not meet your expectations, then I will give you a full refund as I believe in guaranteeing satisfaction to all of my guests. My goal at every stop is to show how each iconic location ties into American history and even the present day. Could you please send me an e-mail to elaborate how this could have been better or call me? My e-mail is tim@alexandriahistorytours.com. I am asking because I fundamentally feel like this is one of the hallmarks of my tours and that they are not just about showing buildings without explanation. I would really appreciate it. The final thing I will mention is that you and Steve told me you went on an architecture tour in D.C. You all mentioned that you liked that tour and so I also emphasized Alexandria's fascinating architecture with you all to cater to your interests. Anyhow, it was great to meet you all and I do thank you again for taking a tour with me and my company. I hope to hear from you or see you again on a future tour.
