Overall, the tour is worth the trip from Warsaw if you have a day to spare. Remembering the events of the past, will ensure they don’t repeat themselves. Now for the tour itself, I had learned that there are three entities who operate this specific tour. There is one that is strictly deals with the coordination with in Warsaw. There is another that deals with the coordination in Krakow. And finally, the last one is the actual museum who coordinates the tour guide within the museum. Yet, the one booking will ensure all our coordinated and everything does run fairly smoothly. Overall door-to-door there were no hiccups in terms of transportation.
The tour began. There were some struggles between the tour, operators, communication, and myself, apparently due to Viator. One thing that was surprising was the tour operator had reached out to sell a higher price ticket for the outbound and return train on a better train that was faster than left one hour later than the initial 5 AM and returned an hour earlier as well. Of course, given the cost of 200 for both changes I accepted, and it was worth it.
The pick up from my hotel in Warsaw and drop off at the train station seamless and quick within a matter of five minutes. We arrived at the train station, super early and were able to have a lite breakfast. The guide ensured we boarded the train and off we went.
The train was super convenient with a bottle of water provided as well as comfortable chairs, and a nice morning sunrise view of the countryside of Poland.
Upon arriving Krakow we were on our own immediately to wander the city until we needed to be at a certain location to meet our bus. When we arrived at that location, it was a little bit confusing as a multiple buses, and it was not easy to find which one we needed to join. only if they had a sign on a pool or something that indicated which bus we were to join. Instead, we had to listen to every single name from each person yelling names to figure out where to go. Once we were on the bus we were on our way, and it was a small . The bus itself was extremely uncomfortable. Seats did not recline, nor were they comfortable at all. Also, the driver did not turn the air conditioning on but kept the heat on which made it very muggy in the bus for an hour and a half drive. We arrrived at the site and we met by our on-site guide again who helped us gather the English from the French and provide tickets and entry into the museum where we met our museum guide.
The Museum guide was very educated but clearly she was either scripted or does this too many times a day for the past several years, and it is simply unapologetically unemotional. She took no questions as I’m unsure there were any anyways, and she also talked way too fast and not loud enough in most cases for a group of over 20. Yet overall, she was very educated, and the tour was very well thought out around the museums.
Items to know that the group in Warsaw stated that we could leave our small belongings on the bus. Yet the group in Krakow said no and even had a sign. One group us left bags on the bus when we got off at Auschwitz yet when we boarded the bus to go to Birkenau, we unknowingly reporting a different bus so they’re belongings were not there and they had to retrieve them off of another bus somewhere else. A bit of confusion and miscommunication.
The return back to Warsaw was seamless and very easy.
Overall a good tour and worth it yet a couple enhancements needed especially to the communication of tours and comfort of transportation.
