After Communism fell, the Budapest government made a bold decision to preserve public art from that troubled chapter of Hungary's past. The result—Memento Park—lets visitors look back at Communist-era Hungary through works of socialist realism. Highlights include statues, relics from the 1956 revolution, and even an East German car.

Awesome Experience!
Judith is outstanding! She was passionate, extremely knowledgeable, and refreshing! Gina, the Trabant, was a hoot! Wish more people would take this tour! Judith is the biggest asset - she presented the subject from different points of view for you to consider. A must do!

Important part of Budapest’s history
Somewhere really worth visiting while in Budapest. The details the guide gave us, really helped to bring the park to life and an insight into the history of the figures. The park is thoughtfully put together and somewhere important to keep history alive.

To be able to ride in...
To be able to ride in such an emblematic vehicle today - was a remarkable thing. We loved the whole experience - the sound, the smell and the pace through Budapest to waves from pedestrians who love the sight of a Trabant – and we loved the feeling of going to Memento Park in a vehicle that represented so much of the rigors and demands of that era. The whole experience was very moving and very real in its sensations. Our guide – Judit - was superb. We could not have wished for anyone better. She knew exactly how to describe the time and the feelings and the momentum that led to the removal of the statues from public life - and to their erection in a park so thoughtfully dedicated to the memory of those whose lives were lost.
