Faraglioni

Capri, Campania

The Basics

Located off the southeastern coast of Capri, the Faraglioni tower more than 350 feet (100 meters) above sea level. The rock formations are so famous that they even have their own names: Stella sits closest to shore; Faraglione di Mezzo is in the center and is known for its natural arch; and Scopolo, which is the farthest from shore and is inhabited by a unique type of blue-skinned lizard.

The best way to admire the Faraglioni is by taking a boat tour from Sorrento, Positano, or the Marina Grande port on Capri. Boat tours generally circle the entire island, sailing past the Faraglioni and through the natural arch of Faraglione di Mezzo, where it’s considered good luck to exchange a kiss with your sweetheart.

The best boat trip on the coast!
This was absolutely amazing! I had a great time and it was very memorable, he let us swim whenever we wanted and there were snacks and amazing lemoncello! Very knowledgeable about the area and taught a lot about history

Most visitors see them on a boat tour that leaves from Naples, Sorrento, or the Amalfi Coast on the mainland, or from the Marina Grande port on Capri. When to Get There

The Faraglioni are one of the most photographed sights in Capri, and the best time to capture their grandeur is in the early morning or late afternoon, when the Mediterranean sun isn’t at its peak. Join a boat tour that leaves in the early hours, or opt for a sunset cruise to take advantage of the golden evening light.

The Blue Grotto

The Blue Grotto (Grotta Azzurra) is another of the most famous natural landmarks along Capri’s coastline and is a highlight of local boat tours. This sea cave is famous for the iridescent blue light that filters through the water into the cave via an underwater opening. Visitors can enter the cave on small rowboats to admire the stunning turquoise glow.
