The basics

Visitors can view more than 1,400 pieces of 20th-century art at the Bechtler Museum of Modern Art, one of the most comprehensive collections celebrating Black art and culture at Harvey B. Gantt Center, and American and contemporary art at the Mint Museum. The Knight Theater hosts concerts, operas, symphonies, and Broadway shows. Some museums offer guided tours. A number of Charlotte sightseeing tours—including by bike, golf cart, and Segway—pass by the center.

The nearest LYNX light rail stop is 3rd Street/Convention Center, while Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) bus routes 2, 16, 18, and 19 stop nearby.

When to get there

Different venues have different hours of operation, though most museums are open during the day, and performances at the Knight Theater usually take place in the evening. Free museum admission and live performances are available Wednesdays from 5pm to 9pm. The Harvey B. Gantt Center for African-American Arts+Culture and Mint Museum are closed on Mondays, while the Bechtler Museum of Modern Art is closed on Tuesdays.
