El Nido trip ideas
Guests at Miniloc Island resorts can arrange independent trips to Big Lagoon, but travelers from El Nido or elsewhere on mainland Palawan typically arrive on an island-hopping tour. El Nido Tour A stops at either Big Lagoon or neighboring Small Lagoon—as both sites are considered premium, travelers can visit only one per day. To fully explore Big Lagoon, which stretches deep into Miniloc Island, book a private tour that includes a kayak.
*Facilities are limited in the Bacuit islands. Take essentials (such as sunscreen) with you. *Travelers on El Nido island-hopping tours must pay a small environmental protection fee. It’s valid for 10 days, so keep the receipt. *El Nido island-hopping cruises usually use outrigger boats reached by wading through the shallows—these aren’t accessible to wheelchairs.
Big Lagoon is on Miniloc Island, about 3 miles (5 kilometers) northwest of El Nido (on Palawan island). There are direct flights to El Nido Lio Airport from Manila and a few other Philippine cities; Puerto Princesa International Airport, about a 4-hour drive south of El Nido, connects across the Philippines and to a handful of Asian travel hubs. A weekly ferry links Puerto Princesa and Manila.
While not prone to typhoons, El Nido has a rainy season and a dry season (roughly December through May). Island-hopping is best during the dry season, when the waters are clearest. For fewer crowds, go in February or May—avoid the Easter and Christmas breaks.
