The sound is located on the southwest coast of New Zealand's South Island. It's a popular full-day trip from Queenstown, about 178 miles (287 kilometers) away. The drive to Milford Sound from Queenstown takes about 3.5 hours, and it's about a 2–hour drive to Milford Sound from Te Anau. The quickest way to get to the sound is by flying from Queenstown.
