The García Caves make a convenient day trip from Monterrey and can be visited independently or on a tour. If you’re traveling in a group, book a convenient private shuttle service to the caves or combine your visit to the caves with an exploration of the nearby town of García. Once there, the best—and only—way to gain access to the caves is as part of a guided tour, during which you’ll learn about various formations, such as the Theater and Christmas Tree. You’ll be allocated a guide on the day.
Given the year-round temperature of roughly 65°F (18°C), a visit to the García Caves is an ideal way to escape the midday Monterrey heat.

The García Caves are situated 27 miles (43 kilometers) from Monterrey, within the Cumbres de Monterrey National Park. The easiest way to arrive is by private transfer service, which saves you the time of public transit and the hassle of driving. Once there, reach the cave entrance via the convenient cable car service—included in the price of admission—or hike up the mountain instead.
The García Caves are open daily from the mid-morning to the late afternoon during the summer months. During the down season, the caves close on Mondays. In summer, visit around midday to take advantage of the García Caves’ cool interior, stop by midweek to skip the local crowds, and avoid school holidays.
Monterrey is ringed with mountains, forests, and parks. As such, it’s the ideal jumping-off point for exploration of various natural attractions. After visiting the García Caves, hike into Chipinque Eco Park for great views over the city or stop by the Cascada Cola de Caballo (Horsetail Falls). Meanwhile, expert climbers won’t want to miss the renowned rock climbing town of El Potrero Chico.
