Sometimes known as the Mirador Asta Bandera (Flagpole Lookout), most travelers choose to walk to the Bishop’s Lookout although you can also access the peak by car. Use the on-site signage to identify the surrounding landmarks and stop by the Bishop’s Palace to learn more about the history of Nuevo León. There, pay special attention to the ornate churrigueresque entranceway, before relaxing and enjoying the view from one of the many benches.
The Mirador del Obispado is one of the best places for panoramic views over Monterrey.
There’s no charge to access the viewpoint but you must pay to enter the Bishop’s Palace.

The walk up to the Bishop’s Lookout is steep and tiring, so wear light clothes, comfortable shoes, and take plenty of water, especially during summer.
Steep inclines can make reaching the Bishop’s Lookout tough for wheelchair users, although the viewpoint itself is accessible.
The Mirador del Obispado is situated just 2.7 miles (4.5 kilometers) from Monterrey’s Macroplaza. While the viewpoint can be reached both on foot and by private vehicle, most visitors find it easiest to arrive by car. There’s a small on-site car park at the entrance.
The Bishop’s Lookout is open year-round from the early morning to the late evening while the Bishop’s Palace is typically open Tuesday through Sunday. Visit midweek to avoid the largest weekend crowds and don’t visit at midday, especially during the sweltering summer months, as shade is limited. Alternatively, stop by on Mexican Flag Day (February 24) or Mexican Independence Day (September 16) when you can enjoy fireworks and live music at the lookout.
While best-known as a business travel destination, Monterrey also has plenty to charm the average traveler. Spend an afternoon exploring the recently revamped Barrio Antiguo neighborhood, venture into the surrounding countryside at Chipinque Ecological Park, or visit one of the city’s many museums—the MARCO contemporary art museum is a must, as is the Glass Museum.
