The basics

Six Flags Great Adventure & Safari offers 10 themed sections in the theme park. Thrill seekers can enjoy more than a dozen roller coasters, including Kingda Ka, one of the world’s tallest steel roller coasters, and El Toro, one of the world’s fastest, tallest, and steepest wooden roller coasters. There are three separate areas for families with kids, and plenty of other options in between. There are also plenty of other entertainment options, from arcade games and karaoke to live shows and cartoon character meet and greets. Visitors can go on a safari off-road adventure, and view animals from various walkways and enclosures in the park.

Book ahead to save time and money. Daily tickets, annual passes, and memberships, as well as upgrades for parking, food, and Fast Passes, are available.

  • Certain rides have height and weight restrictions.
  • Outside food and drinks are not permitted; there are plenty of food options inside the park.
  • Free reentry is permitted prior to 8pm; be sure to get your hand stamped when exiting.
  • Although Six Flags is wheelchair accessible and wheelchairs are available for rent, not all rides and attractions are suitable for wheelchair users.

How to get there

The park is located off Interstate 195 in Jackson, New Jersey, around 50 miles (80 kilometers) north of Philadelphia and 60 miles (100 kilometers) south of New York City. There is paid parking on site. It’s also possible to take NJ Transit’s 308 Express bus from Port Authority Bus Terminal and Newark Penn Station over the summer.

When to get there

The park is open daily over the summer. In the low season (April, May, and September through December) it opens on certain weekends and select other days. Six Flags can be extremely busy over the summer, especially on weekends and special events and holidays. Visit midweek and early in the day or late in the evening to beat the crowds.

Six Flags Hurricane Harbor New Jersey

Located next door to Six Flags Great Adventure & Safari is Six Flags Hurricane Harbor New Jersey, a separately ticketed water park. Spanning 45 acres (18 hectares), it offers more than 45 rides and attractions, including more than 20 high-speed slides, a 0.5-mile (800-meter) lazy river, various pools, and a separate play area for younger kids.
