Do you want to know some secrets… about Speyside and the legends of its fabled whisky industry? There is magic in the mystical hills around Moray Speyside, that flows in its waters to create some of the world's most enchanting whiskies. They have been crafted by nature over centuries with legendary stories of how they are produced passed down through generations of captivated children around open fires. So what better way to discover these secrets than through this tour and with guides who have grown up here and knows the area like nobody else? I will collect from your accommodation anywhere around Scotland. Relax, enjoy your day, and indulge in "one or two wee drams".

We leave the car park and walk up Glen Mark. This flat section follows the Water of Mark and passes the Queens Well after around 5km. The well commemorates the visit by Queen Victoria in 1861. The path crosses two streams and steepens as we head onto more exposed higher ground. Our route heads up the shoulder of Mount Keen where we will reach the summit. First success of the day, and even if the weather doesn’t cooperate, at least a Scottish Munro is climbed! Once on the top, we will get wrapped up in warm clothes and get tucked into our food supplies so ensure you bring plenty of both. I will provide hot drinks, some background music or if you’d prefer to sit and watch in silence as the sky changes from dark blue to orange and wait for that intense disc of light to appear, meanwhile feel the warmth on our skin and a wave of euphoria, then that’s fine too! Once we decide to leave we will return via the ascent route and now see the beautiful countryside in full light.

The Cairns are a collection of historical monuments erected by the Royal Family to commemorate significant events, surrounded by beautiful Caledonian pine forest; they are a real hidden treasure in Aberdeenshire. There are thirteen Cairns on the Balmoral Estate, eight of which you have the option to visit on this circular guided walk. The impressive pyramid shaped Prince Albert’s Cairn sits on top of Craig an Lurachain. It was built in the beloved memory of Albert, the Great and Good Prince Consort, erected by his broken hearted widow Queen Victoria in August 1862. Your guide will point out the historical features on the Cairns walk and tell you about their connection to the Royals, who have enjoyed and influenced this beautiful estate. Now cared for by the National Trust for Scotland, Mar Lodge Estate is made up of more than 29,000 hectares of astonishing Scottish landscape: heather-covered moorland, Caledonian pine forest, towering mountains, and the Quoich wetlands, home to wading birds and otters. The beautiful ancient pinewoods are home to red squirrels and pine martens as well as birds such as the crossbill and black grouse. An area full of history. The current Mar Lodge was built in 1895 as a sporting retreat for Princess Louise and the Duke of Fife, Alexander Duff. The Earl of Mar toasted the start of the 1715 Jacobite uprising at the Quoich Punchbowl. Legend states they poured a barrel of whisky into the Punchbowl.
