The history of Brugal’s rum

Named after Brugal’s founder, Andrés Brugal Montaner, a Catalonian immigrant who learned the art of rum-making in Cuba and brought it to Puerto Plata in the late 1800s, Brugal & Co. has been a family venture for over five generations. Still pushing the boundaries of rum-making in its award-winning cask-aged rums and the rum-making process, Brugal & Co. is now known for being home to the Dominican Republic’s first female maestra ronera (rum-maker), Jassil Villanueva, a direct descendent of Don Andrés.
