After you’ve cruised on the surface of Milford Sound and looked up at its lofty peaks, take a journey underwater at the Milford Discovery Centre and Underwater Observatory, commonly called the Milford Sound Observatory. The large underwater viewing room is 32 feet (10 meters beneath the water, and you’ll see coral, fish, birds, and other wildlife.

Perfect day for a cruise
Wonderful drive from Te Anau through to Milford, easy drive with breathtaking views.
Our first time on a cruise and the kids (2 & 4) absolutely loved it.
Staff were super friendly from the check in desk to those on the cruise. Underwater observatory staff were very knowledgeable and made the experience fun.
Bathroom facilities throughout were clean and easy to access.
We will definitely do it again in the near future

The landscape is dramatic...
The landscape is dramatic and on such a large scale - it’s beautiful. We were lucky enough to see seals and penguins. The underwater observatory was also fascinating

Glorious fiord and great underwater observatory
Fabulous trip! Wonderful views of the Sound and fascinating underwater observatory. Bring waterproofs as it often rains - though didn’t dampen our experience.

Surreal Milford Sound
The whole tour was memorable, once in a lifetime experience. Kayaking added cherry on top. No photos or videos can’t justify this beauty.
