We had an awesome day...
We had an awesome day with our tour guide Pam and driver Bernie. Pam was professional and so personable. She made our day so much fun. Touring the colonial section and Chinatown, we learned so much about Singapore’s history. We ate lunch at the Hawker’s food court in Chinatown. Pam had us sample three dishes. So yummy. We ended the day with a visit to see the waterfall at the airport. Spectacular! She also took photos of us at various locations and emailed them to us. I highly recommend booking this tour.

The Man Behind the Name

Like many buildings, roads, and monuments in Singapore, the Raffles Hotel gets its name from Sir Stamford Raffles, the British statesman who founded modern Singapore in February 1819. Interestingly, Raffles also founded the London Zoo—one of the world’s oldest—as well as Singapore’s first botanical garden on Fort Canning Hill. Mt. Sophia was named after Sophia Hull, Raffles’ second wife.
