Yanaka is one of Tokyo's most traditional and charming districts. It evokes the atmosphere of Edo-period Tokyo, long lost elsewhere in the city. The neighborhood is dotted with some 70 temples, which were moved to the area during the Edo era to spare them from frequent fires in the city's more populated parts.
Our guide Hana was very friendly. She oriented us with the local culture, including foods, drinks, architecture and habits of local people in Yanaka. Highly recommend this tour!
We are a family of four adults and we loved the few hours we spent with our hostess/cooking teacher Yuki-San.
We made some basic dishes which we had requested, laughed a lot and really enjoyed ourselves.
Are you interested in taking a authentic Japanese cooking class We highly recommend Yanaka home cooking experience!
The prospect of exploring "old Tokyo" was really appealing. The super modern stiff is obvious, but this is an old city.
Tetsu was an amazing guide. He clearly knew what he was talking about as he guided us around Yanaka, Ueno and more.
He had just two in his tour, and we racked up a lot of steps going from shrine to temple and more.
We had such an amazing experience at this cooking class! The staff were very friendly and welcoming and even accommodated us bringing our one year old daughter. The food was delicious and we learned a lot. We made miso soup, tempura, and okonomiyaki. I would definitely recommend you give it a try if you’re looking for a cooking class in Tokyo! Also located in a very cool neighborhood.
Chie was a wonderful host and teacher! She gave personalized instruction and was great about taking pictures of us enjoying the experience. Thank you, Chie!
Great tour with a fantastic guide Emiko, who provided historical and cultural context to the beautiful shrines, temples and other sights along the way!
Enjoyed my time with Hana. Learnt a bit about the history, the shrines and temples, and daily life in Japan. Enjoyed the Lucky Cat painting - very relaxing.
Really good tour on some of the older parts of Tokyo
Mieko was a really good tour guide, and very informative on the history of the areas she showed us. Her enhlish was really good making easy to understand everything she was telling us
Yuki was knowledgeable and fun to cook with. My friend and I had a ball cooking and asking lots of questions about Japanese cuisine, Yuki taught us a lot in the two hours. Highly recommended.
If you’re looking to explore temples in Tokyo this is the tour for you
The tour guide was really nice. While I got to experience a new part of Tokyo the tour was too long. Given the heat, it made it seem extremely long. I think this tour should be no more than 2.5 hours.
