Freedom Plaza

1325 Pennsylvania Ave. NW, Washington DC, 20004

The basics

Freedom Plaza was renamed in 1988 in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr. who wrote his “I Have a Dream” speech nearby. Its relief map of DC and quotes from luminaries like Frederick Douglass, Mark Twain, and Abraham Lincoln make it a popular stop for tourists and residents, who come to relax, and even skateboard. Thanks to its proximity to other major Washington DC sights, Freedom Plaza features on numerous sightseeing itineraries, from African-American history tours and e-bike tours to nighttime excursions.
